Hi all,

I'm living in France and, suprising, I'm interested by english's angling technical. In fact I practice feeder fishing since two years in France on Loire river where the potential for this kind of practice is unlimited (or alsmost). For the other French fisherman I'm like an Alien with my feeder rod !! But this situation is changing because of young fisher that they are interested by efficient and funny technical.

I have several difficults with feeder fishing. The first one it's difficult to find good specialists in France. So I'm looking for english fisherman with a good level in this practice in order to learn and share more experiences. The second one is to find material. So if you know a good website to buy fishng tackle thanks to communicate to me.

Last thing if you know a good magazine that focuse on this technical I'm also interested.

Thanks in advance for your answer...and sorry for my mid level in english.

Regards, Cyril

Cyril, glad to hear that we are exporting fishing technique to France in lieu of Beef

( le boeuf )Seriously if you e Mail me your address I will be happy forward to you some magazines relating to feeder fishing. Inside you will see a number of Adverts for tackle at good prices I am sure you can negotiate some shipping charges.

One major tip I would give is to use a loop on your line / see my article ref "so you want to catch a barbel" on this site / fix your feeder on the link swivel where I talk about weights

Hi Graham

I read your article and the response to Cyril. The rig you propose sounds like a tether rig, especially if the breaking strain of the two lines is the same. Am I reading this right or have I misunderstood something.

The reason for asking is that I am concerned is in case Cyril starts to promote this concept in France and we Brits get blamed for starting to tether their river fish.

Happy feedering Cyril and welcome to the best in British Angling Sites.

Waterman's beaten me to this comment. What this means is that if the line gets broken above the weight or the feeder, the fish can get tethered if the feeder should get caught in a snag, thus resulting in a dead fish. Certainly the loop method is a tether rig unless the hooklength is weaker than the main line.

All this, including recommended safe rigs, are shown in the SACG Code of Conduct on SACG.co.uk. I reckon this is so important that it's part of the rules of the fishery I own.

Thank you for your comments you are both right.

I should have been more specific in my article. I actually use 8lb maxima and 7.1 ultima. As you prob know maxima 8lb is more like 10lb and stretchy, whilst low diameter is far more brittle. I will make this point to Cyril.

I have been using the rig almost exclusively for feeder / leger the past 3 years and have NEVER a fish due main line break, catches include 20 plus barbel doubles. Thinking back I can only remember 3 losses due to line break and this has been twice at the bottom lower link tie and today. After bagging 2 barbel at 4 and 7lb - 2 chub at 5 and 5.5 and 2 bream around 5lb I hooked a monster(Thames carp I think) that took 40 yards and cracked of above the hook.

If I thought there was a real danger of damaging fish, and had main line breaks I would stop. Your point and concern is well made though.

Thanks for the clarification. I had assumed that the ultima would go before the main line because of the difference in elasticity and stiffness, but anglers unused to the type of lines you use may not be aware of these subtle differences and how they can affect the rig in fishing.

All,

Thanks for your answers and comments. It's realy interesting for me.

About line did someone has already used "twisted" or "braid" line (I don't know exactly the appropiate term in english)in particular for feeder fishing in river ?

What is your opinion about it ? confused.gif

Personaly I use it with a shoothead line.Is it good ?

Last thing I find a tackle website that sell online Drennan products at following URL http://www.tackleshop.co.uk/. Do you think prices are cheap or expensive (I have no comparison references).

Have a nice week end !
