MrWiggly update

Hello everyone.

First of all, thank you for your many kind thoughts and wishes for MrWiggly. I have passed all your thoughts on to him today. It is the first time I've seen him smile for a long time ! Thank you very much indeed.

The specialists decided yesterday that they were not happy with the alignment of his leg, and have put him in “gentle traction” to try and sort it out. He is now forced to lay flat on his back, and his leg is up in the air on a system of pulleys and things. They say he may have to stay like this for several days before they will see what, if any, effect it may have. He is not a happy chappie at the moment ! The morphine and other drugs are helping, but he is desperate for a good nights sleep.

It appears that the operation he has had is some kind of “First” because of the special hip joint that had to be made for him. It seems that it has been made longer than usual to allow the surgeons to remove the bolts that were already in his leg. They seem to be very pleased with themselves and my hubby is a bit of a star !

I'm afraid that they have not allowed me to take anything into the room for him. I have to wear a gown and a facemask when I go in myself, as do all the nursing staff. So you kind idea of sending him cards etc is out of the question. They seem to be very worried about his leg becoming infected.

The general opinion is that he is doing very well “considering”. Whatever that may mean.

I have worked my way carefully through his notes, and after a few practice runs I have posted up a slot for the June competition. I hope it works alright ! So many buttons to press !

Thank you all once again.

Susan (Mrs Wiggly)

You are a star Susan and thank you for the update.

If you ever need any help with any of this, PM any of the mods. I have unlocked your account so you have normal member access (rather than waiting for your 15th post) so PM should work fine and your posts should appear as soon as you make them.

Failing in that, if you report a post, you can put in your question and it will send an email to all of us.

That's good news Susan! Any idea how long he will be away? I've got another friend who had a replacement quite a few years ago- he still does quite well. Look forward to hearing more news soon.

All the best!

Jeff

thanks so much Susan for the update ,re cards we could still send cards and the nurses could bluetack them to the ward side of the window so he can see them.

it would be cruel to take a picture of him through the window connected to the traction!!!!!!! would it? :D:D:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

it must be a great strain for you all this ... you take care of your self too.

best wishes

Its good to think that the worst is now over and i wish for a very speedy recovery for Mr W and the return to some kind of normality for yourself.

My best wishes to you both.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

I like Judy's idea of posting the cards on the outside of the glass to his room. He may not be able to read them from such a distance but our love for him would be very apparent to him and all.

Hi Susan, sounds like he is on the mend, lets hope so.

Re- Nurse Judys' ''suggestion'' a pic would be great then we can run it as a caption comp and i'm sure the responses would cheer him up no end.

Cheers Fred

my mind not only wanders-- sometimes it leaves completely.

Thanks for the update Susan  As you can tell we're a big family here and we do care when one of us is ill or in hospital. I like the idea of sending cards, even if he can't read them right now he will soon be able to once the threat of infection has diminished.

Take care, and best wishes to Mr Wiggly :)
