Unlucky viney they are a bit good at finding those bankside snags within seconds of being hooked ,at least it proves trhey like your paste chap ;) .

It was in the middle of the river so it was even easier for mr chub to get to before i had a chance :(

running low on paste now need to make some more up! was in sainsburys earlier, the ethnic food aisle is great! a company called natco basically make a range of ingredients for pastes and boilies!

I was out both days (just now got in) chubbing on the Thames, and it was very hard work! I don't think it got above -2 all day, the ground is frozen solid and the river looks like it should in mid-January, very clear, glassy-green and ice along the margins. I can't believe it's November! Brrr. When the sun set today though it was spectacular.

A solitary chub right as the light went made it all worthwhile. I didn't weigh him because it was too cold on the bank to mess him around, but he was probably about four and a half pounds. I was really pleased to actually see a fish today!

I was wondering if anybody had braved the cold, snow and ice this weekend for a bit of fishing?

It was too cold for me but for those that did fish how did you get on?

lancer Have not been able to get on the bank for 3 weeks so even the cold would not have stopped me i really craved for the peace and quiet of the countryside caught 1 chub and lost another fish, hook straightened. venue river Arun West Sussex tight lines everyone.

Fished for carp from 11.30 to 5.15 on a small private club lake (nr Ivybridge, Devon) with a mate. We both blanked. It was bitter. Half the lake was frozen and I now know not to cast onto ice even though it was relatively thin! Lost a hook a lead as line got caught in the ice. We both had doubles last Tuesday so the extreme temperatures must have shut them right down.... I think I will now hang up my rod and await the spring....

I decided to brave the glorious ribble again yesterday but one very cold nose and a pet robin were all i saw most of the day. Saw the dazzling kingfishers again to which brightened the day. Was a nice time either way so im happy enough to go back to work tomorrow.

The river does look great in winter.

Well bivyed up from 4pm Friday until 8.00am this morning. It was a tad cold and the fish were not playing ball and I struggled. I was hoping for some Perch but they were a no show. Had a Pike on a lob worm early Saturday morning, not sure if I was pleased or annoyed by that. After spending a few weeks dead baiting and blanking it was a little odd to catch one on a worm

But at least it was a bit of excitement and rather amusing when I tried to pick up the landing net and it had frozen to the ground, it took some effort to peel it from the ground while holding a rod in one hand waiting for the expected bite off. The net was more a large fly swatter then a net it as it was frozen solid and flat and even by standing on the mesh it was an effort to get it in to a cup style shape. Putting it in the water eventually softened it up a bit. It had plenty of time to thaw as it took a while to try and play a Pike on a feeder rod but I eventually bought it to the net. So a poor weekend fish wise and it was so cold but that was off set a little by the fact the setting looked amazing covered in frost.

I had a bit of luck this morning in the fact that I had packed up before it started to snow, although I had to take a mallet to the landing net to break the ice on it to get it in the stink bag. The price of getting it wet  I don't think I am cut out for winter night fishing :D

The bird life on the Thames was fantastic yesterday, everything was scratching around trying to find food. Kingfishers zooming about, greebes diving for (and catching) little fish, moorhens, mallards, swans, hundreds of geese (that all decided to land where I was fishing :D ), a very fat little robin, wrens, long tailed tits...it was great.

Baiting up swims with mashed bread created quite a following, I felt like an aviary version of the pied piper!

There were plenty of walkers, dog walkers and cyclicts about too, anglers obviously aren't the only crazy ones.
