Could be - I would normally expect to see lots of bubbling in the margins, and there was none. We've had odd weather, too, warm days, cold nights and wind, which could make things a bit unpredictable. A couple of years ago, I would probably have floatfished with one rod in the margins, blanked, and concluded that the tench hadn't woken up yet!

Despite the force 5-7 ENE winds and low temperatures recently Wingham has produced lots of big tench. It seems as though they get acclimatised to the cold after a few days.

 

The biggest so far have been 9-10, 9-11, and 9-12. What's more they're well away from spawning so should be a lot heavier by the time of the Fish-In.

 

Plus the long range forecast is for higher than average temperatures, all the way up to and including the Fish-In. :)
