Yes Elton I do

 

not for my general fishing but every now and again I fancy using one or even 2 on side by side rods.

 

Its a lovely method that I spent many years enjoying.

 

I still struggle with timing for a proper overhead cast with other methods do to my years of swingtip fishing. The wallowy cast necessary with a swingtip comes so natural to me.

Your making me go all nostalgic, I haven't used one in about twenty years. I used to use them all the time for my Bream fishing. I came across one in the shed last spring while having a good old root around but unfortunatly the rubber on the swing hinge was a little worse for wear.

Haven't used one in 25 years, but they are how my mates and I first started legering and they caught us plenty of fish back then. Fondly remembered!

Next year, I really want to try to make it a year of getting out and doing stuff (2010 has been a 'mare). I really think an Anglers' Net Swingtip Fish-In should be on the agenda!

Too right I do! For smaller "match sized" bream in stillwater the swing tip beats the quiver tip hands down.Ive mentioned it many times before but during my match fishing days I won many matches this way and it was quite common at the prize giving to hear people bemoaning the finicky bites they had been struggling with on the quiver................................when all mine on the swing tip had been "unmissable"!

I still like to have the odd trip at a couple of local lakes primarily for Tench using the swing tips. There are a couple of reed fringed margin swims on one particular lake where they work superbly and give great indication of what is happening beneath the water. Can be very exciting fishing with the tip and well worth trying if you have not done it before. I have a few rods with threaded tip rings but the ones that I generally use are my old Daiwa Avons which lovely for playing fish on. Have to keep the anti reverse on the reels off though as sometimes the the bites are reel churners which crtainly gets the adrenalin flowing.

So we do have some swing tip lovers here.

 

If you were to pick a modern rod to use what would be your choice, forgetting screw end eye as that can be fitted easily.

 

I think it was Andy said in the feeder reel post about the lovely playing action of a quiver tip rod. I agree with that as the lighter tip helps reduce the overall power of the rod to allow lighter hooklengths etc.

 

I remember using them off my standard float rods rather than having a proper rod as I could not afford more than one rod then.

I once had my mates leger rod for a period about 22 years ago and used it then but only for a limited time. I've never thought to use one since. I might see if I can botch one together.
