Luck in angling

Yes, but i think its also about good fish being attracted by a feeding frenzy, but standing off and not joining in.

I have seen this with my own eyes. I was feeding a swim for a good few hours over the summer and as I was catching a lot of average sized fish I noticed a large barbel holding up just a bit further down than I was trotting and catching. It clearly knew to sit back and pick of what the smaller fish missed to avoid being caught or being in any danger. After I had seen it I tried to trot a maggot past its nose a few times but it was having none of it and eventually spooked from the float. A very wise and wary fish I suspect. I think Had I waited for the smaller fish to move off it may have drawn up closer to where the feed had been going in and maybe been a little less wary.

You mean the more nervous or larger fish hang fire until everything looks safe ? I suppose that does happen especially in pressured waters.

Yes that's what i was meaning Ian, but I've not found it true on all waters or with all species. Them big carp things seem happy to muscle their way in on most waters with them in.
