I cant go on about them enough.I love Okuma reels. They're slick, comfy, solid, smooth and they look ace.I've got 2 Toledos,a Metaloid and um...another 1..cant remember the name.I love them because they've knocked the bottom out of the reel market.A few years ago you would have paid top-dollar for such a reel but now I find after trying out a few reels,I end up buying the Okumas anyway. The big brands are struggling I think to mass produce reels at a similar standard.GOOD.We've been getting ripped off for years.....especially them Shakespeare things.

Just testing 5 Okuma's, used the Genic at weekend fine reel and landed some good carp and tench. Will try the Epix 30 this weekend the others are being tested on the River Blackwater in Ireland for the spring Salmon.

Report will be posted soon.

Very good reels and Okuma have got the price spot on.

But the flash finish to the reels may put some anglers off " not Matt Black".

Them Shakespeare things normally represnt darn good value, albeit not fashionable. Infact the Tacle Tarts wouldn't be seen dead with Shakespeare, but I reckon its their loss. The rip off merchants tend to be the fashionable marques. Mave & Okuma appear to be similar.

I bought an okuma whan they first came out and have just bought a metalloid, this is by far the best reel i have used and I have tried shimano et al. The only reel I've tried that is better is the top of the range diawa tds2500ia that costs over £150.

I would recommend them to anyone

I have two Okuma reels now, just bought another this weekend. I've got two Dynadrag Reels. The DR50 and a DR30 (£20 each from Chapmans). Well happy with both of them. My dad got one of the DR50's aswel and he can't fault it whatsoever.

I've also got two Shakespeare Reels Zen 1000's aswell (2 for £20 from the local Tackle Shop). Never had a problem with these. These two reels replaced two Shakespeare Reels I cobbled together out of a box of spares about 12 years ago. These were very good workhorses too. The larger of the two reels allowing me to land some hard fighting Tench in it's time.

You see all the flash adverts in IYCF and you see Matt Hayes advertising Fox tackle and so on. But after all this if kids want to get into fishing then the last thing parents want to be doing is forking out £60-£100 a reel.

As far as I'm concerned I'm happy buying the Shakespeare and Okuma reels. They do the job intended and I've saved myself a packet.

The only thing that does bother me is getting down the pond to do a spot of Carping and get laughed at by the Fox Brigade in their tents. "What's this ?? An Okuma Reel ??? Why not Fox ?? And what's this ??? A Ron Thompson Rod ?? Why not get a Fox one, they're only £150 each.....no Bivvy ?? What ??? You're using corn and not Activ-8 or Trigga boilies ??? Only one rod out ??" I've given up going to one pond because of the ridicule from Tackle Tarts. You aren't a serious angler unless you got the gear they have. I don't suppose a Carp can tell the difference between a Fox Rod and a Ron Thompson Rod can it ???

Anyhow before I go on about Tackle Tarts, and ponds starting to look like a tent and camping show I'll lkeave it at that.

Tight Lines all,

Chris.

I asked the same question about six weeks ago and got the same responce here and in other sites.

I went out the very next day and bought the epix 30. It is a fantastic reel not enough can be said about them. My advise to you is go out and buy one now before Okuma see what's going on and hike the prices
