LOL! i catch fish on film all the time..but im not famous...maybe thats what it is!

your ability to catch fish on film is directly proportionate to your amount of fame.....there must be a formula here somewhere..no doubt some smart scientist could gain a HUGE sum of cash studying the effect for a couple of years before telling us fishing is bad for our health and we should take up the hobby of putting wheels on a tomato instead!

I don't think there are many venues that 'famous' anglers get to fish that 'normal' anglers can't. And in fact there are some where the famous ones wouldn't be allowed to fish at all! Most of the 'top waters' (circuit-type waters) are hard for anyone to get into, and their membership made up mostly of 'normal' anglers who basically want it enough.

On Catching the Impossible, I recognised 3 places where I have fished on and off with mixed success. Open to anyone for the price of a cheap club book. But I never caught anything like Martin Bowler did from them, even though I knew fish of that size were there.

However, it can sometimes open a few doors. Also on CTI, I knew exactly where he was fishing for that 7lb chub on the Thames. That bit of water is strictly no fishing, and you or I would never get permission to fish there!

But as the first point proves, even if I was suddenly allowed to fish those places, there's no guarantee I'd catch anything...

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

my father saw a couple pf places he fished as a lad on a certain tv show..he went to the "celebrities" shop to request info on where it was because he couldnt remember and got a mouth full of abuse for his troubles! which goes to show that celebrity might not be the best way to go anyway!

we have a mill pool just up the road thats been on tv a couple of times (by the celeb above curiously enough)..the far side of the road is fishable with a nice lake etc but the mill pond side and stretch of river there is strictly no go!

having said that just down the road from my house is a superb mill and river section which the owner is more than happy to let you fish..if you only have the courage to go to his door and ask! sometimes thats all it takes! alot of these places get a "mystique" about them and rumours that nobody can ever fish them...but you never know for sure unless you ask for yourself!

I think it's the fishing in no fishing zones, sanctuary areas, protected sites etc that leads to people saying "Famous angler's only catches those fish because he has access to all those top waters' I doubt many mind that maybe they may have access to waters that they do not. However when you see them fishing in no fishing zones or using banned method then it might raise a little annoyance.

I have lost count of the amount of fishing programs I have watched with anglers fishing "None Fishing Spots" The boat house at Old Bury Hill is a favourite. The Carp at that spot are almost pets and get fed on a regular basis but it does not stop the "celeb" angler having a try :D

Most of the critisism aimed at well known/famous anglers is really just aimed at "TV" anglers. We have discussed many times why things are done when making tv programmes etc etc.

The real rub though is that many anglers are jealous of "sucsessfull" anglers. They spout a hundred and one reasons as to why the guy is so sucsessfull. But never look at the reasons why they are not................... easier to knock than put in the effort to emulate and effort is what is needed.

Several have mentioned this on here all ready. And strangely enough they are sucsessfull anglers in there own right as well! Maybe the knockers genuinely dont realise what is needed? so think it must be down to things that us "normal" guys cant do/get?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Surely there's no guarantee anyone one would catch anything anwhere. As I've said before no matter how good you are at angling and reading the water/situation you still need that element of good luck.

Den says he lived in bromley just to pretend to be on the same level as us joes but he really meant he saw bromley once from his limmo as he was chauffeured to keston for a bit of film work

Yes, I was thinking more about well known successful anglers rather than the 'TV star' type.

Tigger, in case I'm not explaining it very well, here's a concrete example. The lake I used to fish for tench is a local gravel pit. I fished it quite hard for 3 seasons and never caught anything over about 7.8. The lake has a good reputation for producing several doubles a year, mostly to carpers. Martin Bowler fished this pit on CTI and caught, on film, a tench of 9lb+ on the lift method and pin. That wasn't the only one he had either!

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music
