where would you fish given the opportunity ?

although I class myself as a fairly proficient pleasure angler whose first love is and always will be putting a stick float through a steady current I am always willing to try different methods and venues.

Since visiting wingham I have kitted myself out with numerous bits of kit for short session angling ( by the way Steve if you are reading this my new boss is much easier to influence and I am hoping to make the full fish in this year if I am lucky enough ) .

Now the point of my question is, if you were given the chance to fish a venue for a long weekend nearly 200 miles away for a species you do catch but do not target exclusively and the chances of catching were remote but thinking about it bought out the mr crabtree in you would you take the opportunity. ? :headhurt:

if money was no object, and missus stopped moaning long enough and work didnt get in the way then of course!!

im a pleasure fisherman too...just there to catch a fish and enjoy nature!

having said that id love to have a barbel trip..or a trip to one of these lakes you see on tv with huge carp floating about like underwater zeppelins.

im a bit like my old man..he will sit for awhile and fish one way, then he will pull it all in, change tactics and fish that way for awhile...then he will up and try something else....in a five hour session he will have changed float and overall method about once an hour! LOL and he bloody well usually catches fish on each and every one!! <_< LOL!

Yes, definitely. I don't mind the travelling, and while I'm young and fit enough, and my personal life allows it, I grab every opportunity. England is such a small country, you can be anywhere in a few hours. Pick a good time to travel (very early, very late) and it's easy. I'm very lucky that I have some excellent fishing locally, but a bit of driving in return for something special is an easy decision!

As for where I would choose (and asuming I can't go back in time - otherwise it would be the Wensum in its roach heyday, or Redmire in the company of Dick Walker), that's a good question... oddly, I think I'd go back to Frensham and have a few days at the start of the season (it still has a closed season) and fish for the tench and rudd again. All I'd need is a FAS club book and a bit of a drive, and I could do it quite easily! I would also really love to fish the syndicate stretch of the upper Ouse where those giant perch live, no chance of that unfortunately!

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I think I am fairly happy with the waters I currently fish. I still enjoy traveling to new places to try them out mainly to catch something I can not find closer to home but do not have any burning desire for any new place in particular. Although there is a syndicate river section near me that I would like to get on with some good Perch, Chub, Pike, Zander & Barbel.

Rather then travel great distances to fish, I tend to plan a few days away someplace then see what fishing options are available in the area and spend one day fishing. I think if I was planning a very long journey for just a fishing session then the destination would need to offer more then just a good chance of a few lumps and I would be going more for just the general ambiance of the water and the look and feel of the place would be just as important as the chance of a good fish.

Im happy with the fixtures in my match curcuit we have alot of venues in particular i enjoy of which my favourite has to be sumners fishery .

I do enjoy doing all nighters when i get a chance , but its only once or twice a year now with my match commitments . I do like to get away from it all and relax around lovely surroundings , its what its all about really, and like you say its important to enjoyment but im not sure i would go for three days somewhere where im not likely to catch , i leave that to the long stay carp boys or specialists , but im not knocking it as we all enjoy different discliplnes of the sport.

There was a venue many years back that i used to go and see my dad fish in matches in the 80s called whittley park ( not sure on the spelling ) and it was so Beautiful and absolutely stuffed with cruican , i saw my dad win with 180lb of them once . It is all closed to fishing now but i would love to fish there.

Im not gonna say anymore about it here but im gonna do a post on whittley park because ive only just remembered it existed at all , its like a dream

That's an amazing catch of Crucians, I doubt I would even have that total if I added up all the Crucians I have caught in my life :D
