Fish 'n' Tips

second post of this topic please dales, starts from there before he even saw the mag

In principle I support a new magazine and applaud any one who tries to do some thing different and I wish it had a longer run. However Dean you are a bit of a Magpie and seem to be attracted to every new shiny thing you see :D

Every new line, hook length and rig bits are greeted like they are some form of "holy revelation" handed down by the Fishing Gods. If it's new you will always be championing it until the next thing comes along. Ever thought of a job as a Tackle Consultant or Tester?

In these days when we are being attacked on all sides by various groups, we should be supportive of anything that promotes angling.

I don't think we've drawn any fire from feminist groups yet though, have we? ;)

Well Dean, I don't know where you get the "a lot of people get jealous" thing from, I've not seen anything even remotely like that in the 6yrs I've been a member. Nor the "I am the best". This forum has some of the most experienced anglers on any forum, and they all are willing to happily share that experience and knowledge.

All most of us did was gave an opinion, which thankfully is still allowed.

Oh, and considering the content of the mag, I'd be wary of putting this in print as well, "i wish i could of helped the company, but the help needs to be in advertising.. not my specialty.. maybe my wife could but not i.. " :D

John.

1st off i never said we would actualy help i said i would of liked to help, i would love to help every fishing company out, but that is what being an angler is, helping the future helping now. so don't get funny about it.

and in 6 years your a blind man, i saw a 12 year old innocent girl get torn to f*cking shreds over you lot!!" even when her dad came on and asked to stop talking about in a bad way you lot torn in to him and into her more!!!! so don't give me that!!! and yes your allowed you opinion just give us it if you know what it is your talking about not slander it before it is even out!

if there such good experianced anglers then why are you here slandering new things experianced anglers will be trying to come upo with new ways to out wit fish of all kinds.. not go thats new it wont work, and "i'm the best" was me saying that some of the people on this site come accross like that, but as you said this is my opinion...

i have argued before with members about new things coming out, and before they used/seen it, it got abuse/slammed/thrown out the window.

i posted about chain reactions and it started of with negitivity, instead it should of been yeah actually that could be intrestingwhy not give it a see, weedy line, if i remember it's started getting negitive after post 2... this is the stuff i am on about and this is just off the top of my head!

i wish this mag carried on i wish it would of made you lot think actualy yeah not to bad. a booby and a fish! i'm in luck! but stop trying to be so negitive be a positive angler think to the future of fishing, other wise we will not grow.

i am very opinionated person but i am also a realist, i see the future changing for my world even though i am young. just wish some poeple would follow on and not hold the past.

Dean you must be a adverting man's dream audience :D

There are many worthy things in the world that should be supported but Tackle Companies and Publishing Houses are not two of them. I will let you in to a secret they are in it for the money ;)

i'm sorry Dales, you obviously live in a tent and only work for volunteer groups such is your dislike of rampant commercialism!!:lol::lol:

:D:lol: always brings a smile to my face even when i try to be straight! :D

i like new things i hope that all new things could be pushed forward not every new thing is a bad idea, some yes others no.

magpie i might be but it's for us magpie's we can change the future. :P felt like martin luthor king ahahah

thats a joke before someone try's to get funny about it.

and no, i would probably not even get a shot in the angling world unfortunatly, i would love to but it would never happen there are good people there already doing what they can!

and as for holy revelation and handed by the gods i cryed with that you silly bugger!

It wasn't just us 'tired boring old faces' on here, have a look on any forum (cemex, FM, MD, etc...) and you'll see the same thing. No matter. The 'up yours' is a nice touch, see you when you have another book out :)

That is hardly true, but even if it was what would you say the average age of a fishing forum user is? 40+, 50 + even?

Have a look on facebook at the mag page, very very different but then thats more the target audience.

The point being that you will always get a mixed reaction in the wrong sphere.

no no come on all just get along, this is about discussion not abuse.... :headhurt:

look i will agree on this site everyone is quick to jump on and kick off at anything new and it seems to me a lot of people get jealous, this is a fact and somthing i have been documenting on here, i could prove this if need be, and it's a shame, why can't we just support what needs to be supported instead of i don't like it, i have never seen nor heard of it so i don't like it will not work. i know so as i am the best... well nobody says "i am the best" but it's therethe feel of it.. this mag could of been good, this was a first issue for god sake, all first issue of any mag go wild to get people intrested, so what if it had a titty popping out, after a while it won't be as bad it would calm down, and to be honest i've seen a few of you comment on a naked woman fishing from a boat holding a fish... so to me some of you are Hypocrites, i think we should be supporting every company to boost the fishing inderstry not slam it.... as mark explained near a year ago it was £800 for advertising now under £300.. the sales seem to be doing well, and personally i think the mag was getting 15 year olds more into fishing and showing them that it's not all about rain coat men sitting and holding thier balls in a bush for a fish....

i wish i could of helped the company, but the help needs to be in advertising.. not my specialty.. maybe my wife could but not i..

but like i said stop slamming everything new becuase you lot did not come up with it...

thats my 2 cents and pea pod on this :sun:

With respect Dean, jealousy doesn't come into it at all. Neither does hypocrisy. If you can show where people who had doubts over the mag were jealous or hypocritical I'll be happy to change my mind.

I suppose it does seem like people on forums 'slam everything that is new', and you have to ask why. One reason could be that they have a certain level of experience and are giving an honest opinion of new things, whether that's tackle, bait, tactics, articles, or whatever. And find that most 'new' things are either unnecessary or poor quality, or not new at all.

This mag could have been OK if it had embraced one thing or the other - quality angling articles, or silly lads mag stuff. Combining the two made it really strange. The 15 year old carpers in their bivvies don't care about small stream perch fishing, and the specialist/all-rounder doesn't want all the childish stuff.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Mark, I love a bit of commercialism and if a pretty girl is in the advertising that's fine with me and I'm disapointed I could not track down a copy of your mag.

But at times I think if a big name tackle company suggested that battle ship chains and a 10 tonne anchor was the new winning rig then Dean would be singing it's praises and having ago at the few of us who might raise an eyebrow at the suggestion.
