1st off i never said we would actualy help i said i would of liked to help, i would love to help every fishing company out, but that is what being an angler is, helping the future helping now. so don't get funny about it.

and in 6 years your a blind man, i saw a 12 year old innocent girl get torn to f*cking shreds over you lot!!" even when her dad came on and asked to stop talking about in a bad way you lot torn in to him and into her more!!!! so don't give me that!!! and yes your allowed you opinion just give us it if you know what it is your talking about not slander it before it is even out!

if there such good experianced anglers then why are you here slandering new things experianced anglers will be trying to come upo with new ways to out wit fish of all kinds.. not go thats new it wont work, and "i'm the best" was me saying that some of the people on this site come accross like that, but as you said this is my opinion...

i have argued before with members about new things coming out, and before they used/seen it, it got abuse/slammed/thrown out the window.

i posted about chain reactions and it started of with negitivity, instead it should of been yeah actually that could be intrestingwhy not give it a see, weedy line, if i remember it's started getting negitive after post 2... this is the stuff i am on about and this is just off the top of my head!

i wish this mag carried on i wish it would of made you lot think actualy yeah not to bad. a booby and a fish! i'm in luck! but stop trying to be so negitive be a positive angler think to the future of fishing, other wise we will not grow.

i am very opinionated person but i am also a realist, i see the future changing for my world even though i am young. just wish some poeple would follow on and not hold the past.

I feel like I have to reply to this one too, sorry Dean!

No-one was having a go at that young girl. It was about the fact that a tackle company had employed her as a consultant. It was a discussion about the crazy nature of the industry, not anything personal against the girl.

Chain reactions are just quick breakdown pellets with an added flavour. You can get a 20kg sack of layers pellet for £7 that does pretty much the same thing. You can add your own flavours.

The weedy line - have you tried it yet? Did it make any difference?

I am actually a very positive angler, it's just that some people don't like to hear that spending money on weedy tubing or expensive rig bits or bait won't actually make any difference. If someone comments that this or that new bit of expensive tackle is unnecessary, or too expensive, or does the same thing as something else - surely that should be taken as a positive thing?

Alternatively, experiment with these new things and post up your experiences. I for one would be very interested to read about them, and change my mind.

The mag, at its heart, wasn't funny enough to pull off (fnarr!) the innuendo. That type of humour done badly is like a drunk uncle at a wedding. Done well, like Viz, it's great. But Viz doesn't also publish fishing articles.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

I really dont see any need for it to turn into a slanging match lol. At the end of the day people gave their opinion of a magazine at first glance which is exactly what most would do in a newsagents. I am afraid that in this day and age we will judge a book by its cover when there are so many other magazines out there as that is what is meant to give an impression of the content inside. In this case it would appear that the cover depicted accurately what was inside the mag and justified that arguments that some put forward. The opinions expressed should have benefited the contributors to the magazines as much as those yet to form an opinion as an form of extra market research.

We cannot all be right but we all have a right to voice our opinions and not to be called out into a slanging match over it and certainly not be told "up yours". One mans treasure is another mans junk i suppose. I stand by my opinion either way.

With respect Dean, jealousy doesn't come into it at all. Neither does hypocrisy. If you can show where people who had doubts over the mag were jealous or hypocritical I'll be happy to change my mind.

I suppose it does seem like people on forums 'slam everything that is new', and you have to ask why. One reason could be that they have a certain level of experience and are giving an honest opinion of new things, whether that's tackle, bait, tactics, articles, or whatever. And find that most 'new' things are either unnecessary or poor quality, or not new at all.

This mag could have been OK if it had embraced one thing or the other - quality angling articles, or silly lads mag stuff. Combining the two made it really strange. The 15 year old carpers in their bivvies don't care about small stream perch fishing, and the specialist/all-rounder doesn't want all the childish stuff.

CAR magazine made a reputation for itself as a serious publication that wasn't afraid to upset advertisers by being ruthlessly honest when it reviewed their cars and by spurning "advertorials". It still attracted advertisers, but it was respected and widely read, and an audience is an audience.

Publishing isn't my thing, but it seems to me that if you are going to start a new magazine with that ethos, you business model is going to have to take account of the fact that until you have a solid readership, people might not want to advertise with you. To my mind, that means that you are going to have to pitch for more of a premium market, and I think that market is likely to prefer something more like Waterlog or National Geographic to something more like Max Power or Viz.

And for that reason, I would have been oot.

The comment I made about helping out the mag, was about you saying your wife could help out. Considering the content of the mag', I jokingly said I'd be wary off offering her services.

I must be blind, or not on at the time, because I don't know about the 12yr old girl thread, (Can anyone put a link to it), but if what Andrew says is right, then you've taken it the wrong way, again. I'd have to read it to judge for myself.

I don't know how long you've been involved in angling, but I assure you that there are very few original ideas, just a new take on old (some very old ) ones. Just because it's pushed by a named company then it doesn't mean it's any better than what's gone before. Most of us older anglers have seen or heard of most them before. I've read that the best word to use, to get people to buy something is "new", even if it isn't. It would be far better for you to try things for yourself, and give a review, than risk getting upset if someone says anything negative about it.

You seem to have a very poor opinion of many of the members of AN, and all this rubbish about "slander' and "jealousy", just adds to that. It makes me wonder why you bother posting if you feel that way.

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

Doesn't look like my Mr. Chavtree cartoon strip's going to take off then!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!
