Yeah those are the ponds, i used to have one one the iron and steel permits for them about 6-7 years ago then they were in limbo for a while b4 being picked up by someone else. Yes there is some very large wily old bream in there - never caught one but seen them a few times, the place where they always are is pretty unacessible with the weed growth nowadays, but i did here a story of a pike angler foulhooking one recently when lure fishing. Night fishing is banned but ill find a way to catch them somehow hopefully. Mainly go there on an evening after work for tench, sometimes good roach too.

Where abouts in winterton is that pond you mentioned?, because i really fancy joining up for some crucian carp and a crack at the big perch when it gets colder. :)

The pond is at the bottom of Thealby hill. You could live in Winterton all your life and never know it was there. If you go through Winterton (presuming you are coming in from the bottom end from Appleby) to top road you will come to a round about on the A1077, left to Town right to Winteringham, Ferriby, turn right. About 100m down the road turn left down the hill (Thealby hill) when you are just coming into Thealby there is a right turn to Coalby, about 10m before that there is a gravel track go down there and the pond is at the bottom. If you go down on a Monday night there will be a match on and you should be able to sign up there and then. Ask for Alf, he's the secretary, Tell him Paul Mallinson sent you and if needs be I will propose your membership, but he will probably do it himself and get someone there to second it - they are usually looking for members.

James I'm in Winterton.

I havent fished the two in scawby, are you talking about the ones on the left just after you have crossed the motorway? Theres suppsoed to be some big bream in them. I think they were controlled by the club I'm a member of, ISAC (Iron and Steel Angling Club). Not any more though. How have you been doing?

I would suggest joining the club if you like catching tench and or enjoy fishing the Trent. They have a pond at the bottom of Winterton which contains lots of tench to about 6.5lbs, Chub to about 5lbs, Crucians to about 2lbs, and bream to double figures. Also theres rumours of very large perch which are predatory and feed on the large number of small rudd.

Hi Mally, few years have passed since these posts, are you still fishing and do you still fish the Bain?
