DG, I couldn't comment really, I have never used a double handed reel, front drag or rear, but from the comments on this thread, the next time I'm in the market for a fixed spool, I'll be looking into them....

waiting for my okuma centrepin first :D

Budgie,

I must have missed that comment if it's in this thread. I certainly agree that I haven't noticed any major difference in winding-in speed per se ..it's maybe a tad quick to find one of the two handles than one, and certainly the smoothness and balance will help wind-in.

i.e. as my per pic,viz.

Newt:

The only thing is that you should not need to change your drag if it is set correctly in the first place

Set Correctly

- which requires you set it with the amount of line off the spool that will resemble the condition after you cast out if you are fishing a static rig and is an impossibility if you are lure angling since no way to tell how much line will be out when you get a take.

- which requires you have the same amount of bend in the rod as you will with a fish on.  Impossible unless you know exactly what size fish will take and pretty much what species as well.

Newt I can see your point but I have always set my drag in relation to the type of rod, main line b/s and hooklength b/s.

This is normaly done with the length of line out on which I would land a fish.

As 99 per cent of my angling is done with mono I know that the further out the fish is the more stretch I have in the line making my drag setting under set. Sometimes I do have to make adjustments.

I know this is my personal way of thinking but hopefully you can see my point and why I dont feel the need to fiddle with my clutch!!!!!!!!

When I say type of rod, some have more bend than others depending on action type, test curve etc.

I use my reel with fighting drag when using braid as I can make quick adjustments as braid has no stretch.

DG

The t@ssers in our IT dept have some type of block in place.

No surprise considering the amount of virus alerts lately.

I can see my Avatar.

I will have to imagine the pictures.

As I have owned some pretty dodgy reels in the past I have a good idea!!!!!!!!!
