New rod and real set up for pike

Pike fishing is possibly the one area where Steve B and my self don't 100% agree! but that said there isn't much I feel I need to add to his excellent replies.

One thing I will say though is unlike fixed spool reels there is no such thing as a good cheap multiplier! Ive tried, tested, used, been given several over the years including ones from Fox and Masterline etc and they are a complete waste of money.Enough to put someone of using a multiplier for life!

Get yourself an ABU Ambassadeur or if you must a Shimano or high end Daiwa. 90% of pikers I know who use a multiplier regularly use an ABU.

I also prefer a longer rod from the bank except for one job and that's using "dog" style surface lures and that's simply because the technique ("walking the dog") used to work them requires downward strokes of the rod and with a longer one you keep smashing the water/ground!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
