CHILDREN AND PONDS.

Now there's a right un.

Recommended Posts

I had up until 2 weeks ago a lovely 15'x12' pond.

I then noticed I was losing 4" of water over 2 days and so decided to find out what the problem was.

On draining the pond :o I found the following items all of which I shall list:

2 Forks.

1 Knife.

4 Spoons.

A serrated tin lid.

1 Claw Hammer.

1 Chisel.

1 Posi Screwdriver.

2 Toy Metal Ships.

1 Pole Float complete with size 20 hook.

1 Method feeder.

3 Large shards of glass.

1 Bank stick.

Children and ponds do not mix....unless.. ;) ...you want to bury them in it.... :D

Still it gave me the opportunity of improving on my old pond....still filling after 8 hours...lol...

Luckily, I had a swimming pool to transfer my fish to.

Reminds me of something I read in Practical Fishkeeping about 20 years ago. Someone had just finished laying his (large) pond liner and filled it up, when he patted his pocket looking for his wallet containing £200. Nothing. Then he noticed a wallet-sized lump under the liner at the bottom of the pond....

BREAKTHROUGH!!!

I have finally found out what my children were doing.

The tools, cutlery and bankstick are in there because my 8 & 10 year old were keeping pockets of water clear of ice when we had the exceptionally cold snap.

The Float was there to check what was needed to make it level with the water. (my 8 year old) :fishing:

The method feeder was there because my 12 year old was checking a mix he made. :fishing:

The ships were there because my 10 year old had seen the film Titanic. :boat:

I am now also erecting a 4 foot picket fence around the whole pond. :busted_cop:

Not sure that'll help lol. If they're already using your tools, you may find parts of your fence missing for more experimental work... important work it is too!
