Now I live on a lake

As some of you know, I live on a creek in Michigan, USA, near Lake Michigan. Last night's thunderstorms dumped enough water to make it jump its banks; it was at my back-door threshold when I got up this morning. First time since I've lived here. After the initial panic my wife Karin and I got it sandbagged and pumped out near the house. I even saw a large fish swimming on the surface in front of my utility shed.

 

I hope the waters recede soon. There are more storms due in a few hours.

 

That distant bridge usually has an 8-foot clearance beneath it. That's my firewood floating away.

Ouch. Just Ouch!!!

 

The bad news is that if lots of the rain is upstream of you, the main rivers will go higher and will push yet more water into this creek even if you don't get a drop of rain.

 

Keep us updated please. I fear for your basement with only that much wall remaining to deal with rising water.

Probably not good news. This is their weather and severus lives close to Grand Rapids. This is a real-time radar view and the arrows indicate how far this front will move in one hour so maybe the time over him was brief but it did dump lots of rain in the rivers upstream from him. The blocks at the arrow base indicate a strong storm cell and yellow means it contains hail.

 

 

It is raining there now but not as heavy as when this front went through but today is wet and tomorrow ain't looking too good either.

Wow, nice photos from the autumn of 2006, Jan. I hear we received 5 or 6 inches of rain last night, much less than the ten inches south of us in Indiana.

 

The waters are receding now, fortunately. Whew.

I hope the waters have continued to go down. We nearly got flooded out during the flooding last year, some people in Hull are still living in caravans one year later whilst their houses are repaired!

 

Some of the repairs have needed repairing too after the insurance companies hired cowboys to do the job
