You just start asking the questions and we'll see if we have the answers between us. Nothing better than anglers net mate. and you get treated gently, don't go on the conservation and politics section till you got your feet under the table though.:D

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

It's just really the tackle I have questions about, can I use my coarse reel, or are there specialised ones for sea fishing, also what's the deal with hooks, do I need sea fishing hooks or can I use coarse ones?

thanks

We do use tiny hooks say size two and less for several species, sometimes, mackerel using feathers up to a size eight. Don't know about using a fresh water i presume fixed spools as opposed to one made for the sea as i would be concerned with regards to getting salt water into the works. However i do see some using fresh water rods and reels in the summer, while even fishing over the wrecks.

No reason why you can't use lightweight rods and reels for some of the salt water fishes, some guys revel in using as light as possible, makes it more interesting. Today's saltwater angling, we have carbon rods, very light, yet powerful, small multipliers with immense strength if required and of course braided lines.

Are you looking to do shore or boat or both i can give you excellent tips on cod fishing and what baits to use it depends where you are going to fish rock fishing is big buisness around the northeast with stacks of cod here off the shore at times again local knowledge does help .

I will probably be fishing from a beach or off some rocks on the Mersey estuary when I finally manage to get all my stuff together, dying to get into saltwater fishing though.

What happens if you catch a cod, can you cook it and eat it or do you have to release it like in commercial coarse fishing?

Also can somebody put up a basic rig for catching mackerel, gonna fish for mackerel first, had some good advice.

As long as your fish reach the minimum landing size for each species, it might differ from area to area so if you're fishing in the Merseyside area for instance, I'd find out the information from your local sea fisheries area . Mackeral are generally 30cm up here but they are smaller in Cornwall (just an example) so its worth checking to make sure you don't do any thing illegal

Catch it and eat it, nothing wrong in that , sea fish fresh from the water are superb but cod is better the day after capture when it firms up a bit

As for mackeral you'll find that most of your coarse gear is no good for mackeral unless you're going to fish with one spinner and catch one mackeral at a time

If you're going to catch mackeral with a string of feathers (daylights are the best by the way) with a 3 or 4 ounce lead at the bottom then you'll find the majority of your coarse gear won't stand the strain of casting the weight in the first instance as you're rod will probably snap and your reel won't cope with constantly reeling in the lead and it won't cope when you've got the lead and three or four mackeral on as well. A 1lb mackeral punch's well above its weight and if you've got a few on your ordinary coarse reel won't have the guts to winch them in

If you have a decent carp type rod capable of casting 4 ounces a big pit type reel or proper sea fixed spool reel (Leeda make some good cheap fixed spool sea reels) and 12 or 15lb mono then you'll be OK for feathering, its still called feathering even though feathers are very rarely used

Use a decent spinning rod and reel and 8lb mono and single spinners and you'll get the best out of mackeral

My sisters boy friend is bring me round some fishing gear he never uses any more, he said I can just have it for free, he said theres a pole (I presume he means a rod) some line and box with a few things in.

Deffo gonna get into this sea fishing though, probably go camping near the sea at some point and just fish all the time, keeping an eye on the tide though, my tent isnt that water proof

Anyone know any good fishing spots on the liverpool side of the mersy?

Thanks

He brought round an 8ft spinning rod with loads of lures!

Gonna get out as soon as I can, might go over the weekend if I can find somewhere good on the liveprool side of the mersey :)

Can you fish near the albert docks? If you can does anyone know what the fishing is like at this time of year? I will probably be using a lure unless I catch some mackerel within the size limit I'll take a cutting board and fillet that while fishing, between casts.

Thanks for your help everyone!

I know sod all about the Mersey and fishing locations but I do know that you're about 5 months early for the mackeral most of which turn up late June early July so you might wabt to leave mackeral fishing till then

Flounders and flatties of all description will be caught in the esturies but I do know from reports that cod are caught in numbers throughout the winter so they may be an option if you have the gear to catch them

If you're going only with your spinning rod wait till the macky arrive, a phone call in summer to a nearby tackle shop will put you in the right direction
