severus - spade end hooks do not have an eye. Just a bulge (shaped sorta like a shovel blade which is probably where the name came from). They need some sort of strange and specialized knot.

Domhof knot is not too difficult. It does get harder the smaller you go with the hooks if you are tying them by hand.

 

Does the knotless knot work with spade-end?

Yep, I always do. Gave up spades years ago, if you fish for big fish you will lose one now and again when the spade cuts the line, no matter how well tied they are.
