How has everyone been getting on?

How has everyone been doing when fishing recently?

I'm still struggling for bites here in the South west, no matter how or where i fish, so i am blaming it on the cold water temperatures!!

Keep seeing pictures of people with recently caught chub and hauls of roach and bream and was wondering if people had found fishing recently hard, normal or even quite easy?

As famous fisherman John Gierach once said "I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it's the one thing I can think of that probably doesn't."

Dave its always hard in the winter and often a case of being lucky. It also helps to pull on previous results and fish for what feeds and in the right places.

Also read and study all results of matches where you want to fish and old newspaper reports. Read everything you can about the venues watch the weather and rainfall and then make your own mind up. When it works its like a double catch of fish as its really your own work and you made it happen.

Thats experience.

See blog!

Rivers always less of a challenge than still waters in the winter - in fact I actually relish my winter river 'season'! Cooler temps over the last few days may thawt attempts at perch over the weekend but the chub grayling and dace should still be feeding!

Rivers definitely best, 9lb pike last weekend for me up here in the north east. Need to keep moving from swim to swim to both find the fish and stay warm!

Two good sessions the last couple of weekends at a local commercial. Roach a chuck up to about 8oz and several Carp up to around 8lb. I know a lot of people don't regard commercials as proper fishing but I enjoyed it.

Don't know about this weekend. Temp down to minus 3 this morning :o

It depends on what you mean really! I'm happy with one bite a day, but as others have said, the rivers are the place to be in winter.

my local canal (llangollen nrth wales) has been a mixture, lots of blanks, some days when i manage a single fish (always tiny!) and quite a few days of really good fishing. same suspects as always, dace, roach mostly, with some small perch and chub (had so many small chub that there must be bigger ones, i'll find them yet!).

the environment agency have just finished working on my favorite stretch, which held specimen perch and ruff and they've turned it into a magnificent ditch that won't hold fish for maybe a decade. i genuinely nearly shed a small tear when i saw it this week. still have to buy a day ticket to fish though!

Give a man a fish and he will live for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will live forever
