Peter Waller:

I rather like the fox in my garden!

There were lots of comical and cryptic slogans to be seen in London on Sunday.

On the back of a 12ish year old girl was "They killed my ducks".

Another read: Save a cow, eat a vegetarian!

Peter Sharpe:

Does anyone actually believe all this guff about only the weak and diseased being killed by a hunt? Are the terriers they send down the earths qualified to carry out a full health check? Trapping would obviously be a far superior method if this was a genuine concern, as healthy foxes could be released. I'm a bit confused about the Scottish hunts driving foxes towards the guns. How do they manage to do that, or do they have people with guns sitting around the whole countryside, just on the off chance that a fox might decide to run their way. Are all the hounds muzzled as well?

Snaring is the most cost/time effective way of controlling fox numbers. Some are dead when found, some not. Snares have to be checked once every 24 hrs for their use to be legal. Gamekeepers who work for bosses who also hunt, are not usually allowed to use snares.

Cage traps work well around buildings where human scent is to be expected and especially just inside poultry houses and pheasant pens, but not out in the woods.

As far as releasing healthy foxes is concerned, no chance!

A hunted fox will usually run with the wind. People who know their country should easily be able to ambush a fox that is being followed by hounds.

Foxes that are old, infirm, injured etc or just plain stupid, like those that are brought out from the towns, are the 'most likely' to be killed by hounds, leaving the better specimens to breed.

Hi All,

I have enjoyed reading all the

post!s about the march, I did not

go myself due to a previous commitment

but,I dont think I would have gone anyway.

I have heard more about other country

issues than fox hunting, by people who

did go on the march and spoke about them

on the Telly but, the interviewer still

tried to get it round to Fox Hunting.

I put the original post up to see what

other people thought of the march and,

also if they thought the Countryside

alliance had made it a pro-hunting

march.

Something else that caught my

Attention on the farming Program

( on Country file Sunday BBC 1 )

Interviewer asked this farmer if

he was going on the march and, he

replied " I would like to but, when I

asked the Organiser if I could carry a

Banner saying, I was not in Favour of

Fox hunting, they said I would not be

welcome so no Iam not going"

So enough said ive got to go now will

catch you all tomorrow.

"btw Chesters...are you implying that there should be no laws since people will do 'unlawful' things anyway? Couldn't quite follow what you meant. Could be worth a go though cos there are a few people I wouldn't mind bumping off with impunity"

no i`m not saying there shouldn`t be laws ,what i am saying is you can make as many laws as you like but if no-one is there to catch people breaking them then they become pointless ,we all know shooting people is against the law but shootings have risen many fold ,not because more people have guns (although there easily available) but the chances of bring caught are less so people know they will probably get away with it,if there were no guns then no shootings ,although our leaders say there are more police than ever before ,where are they  probably looking after the ring of steel in london certainly not strolling past my front gate nor i doupt yours ,our leaders have put into action very many new "objectives" (remember such gems as "marching them to a cash machine") and the public order stuff ,you can bring out 20 new laws everyday but if there isn`t a penalty for breaking them then they become unworkable if there unworkable then there pointless :)

Believe NOTHING anyones says or writes unless you witness it yourself and even then your eyes can deceive you

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

Whichever way you look at it ,"The March" was a huge, yes HUGE, success. The ability of the CA to motivate 400,000 ordinary people to march peacefully in support of their beliefs was very impressive,

Yes 400,000 people is a massive turnout and whatever you believe in you have to give credit to both the organisers and those who marched.

Whether you think it`s okay to shoot or hunt foxes or are of the view that anglers were being used is totally irrelevant.

The fact is that this march did almost no good for anyone!

Oh yes the media made a splash in the earlies and ,I have to say, some of their comments were extremely well thought out and some even impartial(thats a change)

However, the following day it was all but forgotten. Why? Because at this moment in history we are about to go to war with Iraq.....

Some things are more important than angling and hunting and rural issues.Oh,not to us but to the vast majority of the country.

So I have to disagree that the march was a huge success. In fact it was really a washout.

Sorry for all those who got blisters!

Why do you think dear Tony B Liar is so keen to go to war with Iraq?

Could it be another way to 'bury bad news' and not actually have to listen to his electorate?

It wouldn't be the first time a political party has used war abroad to curry favour at home - although this time it could easily backfire on them.

It will only backfire on him if something goes wrong.

The electorate are a fickle lot!
