How do you transport your Tarpon 120?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I've a medium sized hatchback with a glass sunroof over the front seats that's longer than the Tarpon kayak I am looking to move.

I've done some searching on roof racks and seen a book that recommends curved cradle parts attached to the transverse bars of roof racks to hold kayaks.

Searching around I've come across an inflatable roof rack on the Argos website.

On YouTube I've come across a chap using V section foam blocks and straps to tie his kayak to the roof of his car.

I think most of my kayaking will be local, though I'd like to try the odd long run to fish further afield.

This time next year I could have a different car so I'd rather not buy a car specific roof rack for it, but I guess if I have the roof rack I can then carry the odd larger item should I ever need to. My rods fit inside the car and don't need to use a roof rack for that.

I've seen a kayak fishing couple unloading their kayaks from quite an elaborate trailer, but I've just the one kayak.

Are there any Tarpon 120 users out there that can tell me how they carry their kayaks?

Not a rigid kayak user but I see a lot of people using the inflatable racks with no problems. Would suggest a shaped rigid foam slab over your sunroof to use as a load spreader so you can get adequate tension to hold your 'yak in place.

I do think however, the foam block system you described may be more suitable for your needs as you are not limited to only two support points as with traditional racks.

Just give it a damn good wiggle before you set off to make sure!!!
