Chevin - I also fish some of the spiderwire fusion. Palomar works great with it.

Hi Poledark, I have tried the figure of eight so far with no problems, I am not joining anything, I simply want a loop. It holds OK and and I have tested it with out the line snapping at the knot.

Newt. The line I am using is SpiderLine Fusion, not SpiderWire Fusion. I don't know what the difference is except that the line appears to be softer, and a few dollars more expensive.

chevin - probably talking about the same stuff. For instance, looking at this package you'd think "Ah ha, Spiderline Fusion"

But the full name (and on the package somewhere but in pretty fine print I think) is SpiderWire ™ SpiderLine ™ Fusion ™.

They are now making 3 variations of the line. Regular, catfish, saltwater. The regular is the the original, the most limp and the least expensive. The catfish and saltwater variations are supposed to be more abrasion resistant with Saltwater the most abrasion resistant and the most expensive (abrasion resistant I've read and expensive is true).

Yup, Newt's quite right. BTW, no braids or fusion lines can compare in abrasion resistance with a good modern mono of the same BS. Of course braids are much thinner in diameter for the same BS and so this puts them at an immediate disadvantage.

True, but 14lb Berkley Fireline, for example, has the same thickness as most 8lb mono's, yet IME has the same abrasion resistance as 10lb mono, making 14lb Fireline more advantagious over 8lb mono.

In the shop at which I bought my "SpiderLine" Fusion, they had, on the same shelf, some "SpiderWire" Fusion. The two lines are entirely different, the "SpiderLine" is obviously braided and soft. The "SpiderWire" had the appearence of being a single strand wrapped by a thread of something, and it was nowhere near as pliant as the "SpiderLine". It was also about $3.00 cheaper for 300metres. That price difference is not significant, but what was significant was the difference in price between "SpiderLine" and similar stuff by Penn. The SpiderLine was $41.50 for 300 metres, the Penn line was $99.50 for the same amount. While I believe in buying good quality tackle it will take a lot to convince me that the Penn line is worth $58.00 more for the same amount.

Spiderwire is the original JWA brand name (In UK and I think in the USA). This was/is available as SpiderWire Braid, s true braid based on Allied Signal's Spectra HPPE.

Spiderwire Fusion is not a true braid, it's a fusion line.

Just to add to any confusion, I think that the brand name "Spiderwire is interchanged with "Spiderline"

Poledark is right, nothing like testing things for yourself - at your workbench, where a breakage doesn't mean a lost fish.

A month or two back I suggested joining two lengths of the same sample of line via a swivel, using a palomar at one end, and a five-turn grinner at the other - then pull on the two lengths until one or t'other breaks.

I was surprised at the flak that attracted - dare I suggest from people that hadn't tried the experiment?
