When are we going to get some rain!

Blimey it's being a dry spring in central southern England. Locally we've not had any substantial rain since 26/27 Feb when 16mm fell. In the 8 weeks (nearly) since we've had a meagre 13mm - and less than 2mm so far in April. Garden is bone dry - Garden pond is 3-4inches down and I dread to think what the Kennet is looking like. Not much prospect of rain on the horizon either... :(

Well I drive over the Lambourn at Great Shefford every day and it looks a lot better there than it ever did in Winter. A lot of vegetation was cleared before Spring which might be giving a false impression so I'd need to have a look further down. How long would you expect the Winter aquifer reserves to last before rain was needed again?

I'll be fly fishing at Speen over the weekend so I'll report back on the Kennet.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

Upper river already begining to run dry - been following this over the weeks...

http://www.environment-agency.gov.uk/homea...els/120793.aspx and following its down ward trend....

Will be starting to have an effect further downstream - though I'm most worried about what it will be like come late summer. We only had an averagely wet winter. Jan and Feb were Ok but December was very dry (if ruddy cold) had less than an inch of precipitation....

When I was in Sydney the other day, the news reporter on the radio gleefully announced that it was the wettest April day they'd had for 10 years.

For some reason, I didn't share his enthusiasm...

Perhaps you should join the Republican Party ;)

It's been pretty dry in Texas too, the Governor has a solution.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, RICK PERRY, Governor of Texas, under the authority vested in me by the Constitution and Statutes of the State of Texas, do hereby proclaim the three-day period from Friday, April 22, 2011, to Sunday, April 24, 2011, as Days of Prayer for Rain in the State of Texas. I urge Texans of all faiths and traditions to offer prayers on that day for the healing of our land, the rebuilding of our communities and the restoration of our normal way of life.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto signed my name and have officially caused the Seal of State to be affixed at my Office in the City of Austin, Texas, this the 21st day of April, 2011.

That ought do do it ;)

Nah, we ought to re-incarnate Dennis Howell - I well remember him being made Minister of Drought back in 1976 an appointment heralded with heavy rains which brought flooding to parts of the country - of which he was put in charge of...
