(To no-one in particular)

It may do us all good to remember - and ponder - the line from the song 'The Boxer' by Simon & Garfunckle:

"A man hears what he wants to hear and

disregards the rest..."

I have read this "debate" a few times and quite honestly don't feel that it has progressed from the initial statement of reconciliation. There has been a few too strong words on how unhappy a few individuals are, to their miond no doubt with good reason, but the overall impression is that;

A decision has been made, some people are not happy. That's committee decision life, made with the best intentions.

Those that are disatisfied have an opportunity to change things at the AGM or similar. Put your efforts into that to gain the moral ground and achieve support of the majority of members. But please Gentlemen, a bit of sanity in the debate, not point scoring

Despite my often voiced disaproval of some of the past PAC committes antics I do still live in hope that it will regain its grip and tempt me back in to the fold.Being involved with TR's and the subsequent culling (both live transfer and killing)none of which I particularly like but now understand/accept is the way it will be in a lot of cases, I feel there are a lot of uncovered issues surrounding the Blithfield lark.People who have no involvment in TR managment will never listen let alone understand these views/issues so I have never bothered going in to them.Due to this I would have to say my views on the whole sad (I wont say boring as as Mac says to many it is a very important issue indeed)affair are echoed by Leons latest post.Incidently I had the opportunity to fish but declined because of the way it was inevitabley going to end up.Out of interest I wonder how many who have such strong oppinions also were in this position or merely reacting to second hand experience?

Please do not think me trying to be superior but for the majority of Pikers who attend TR fish ins (no matter how often) they must remember that they are just looking in from the outside and a very brief glimpse at that.

Yes ,sorry Steve it does seem to have gone off at a bit of a tangent again! The whole subject of the rights and wrongs of Blithfield are unfortunately at the very heart of the rights/wrongs of NF's return to the PAC.As I have allready said I feel that love him or loathe him NF's place is in the PAC rather than out of it.Mac makes a good point about the public apology(Not so much for the lack of judgement he shown over Blithfield but his subsequent behaviour)I totally agree with Leons last post.I personally feel that if we want a unified angling then a unified PAC (among others) is a good step in the right direction surely?

Thank you for your riposte, Mac.

Having read the vitriolic comments made by NF in the P&P overs the previous months towards the previous committee of the PAC, i find it incredulous that they even made their peace, I am a fair minded angler who made his mind up regarding the situation by looking at both sides of the argument and on reflection, if it makes peace amongst the warring factions, then so be it! but I think that some of the personal attacks on Frank Gibbons were out of order especially the one about the money owed, i'm afraid that this showed how bitter the feud became. I feel as a neutral, people like me can see things in a different light instead of the cliques that pervade specialist angling groups. Feel free to comment on this!

Now I know who you are, Mac, my original comments were made regarding the petulance or behaviour of some prima donnas when they didn't get their own way!Feel free to e-mail me on the subject if you wish!

There comes a time when you have to put the past behind you and move forward. Like him or loathe him NF is a big name within pike fishing and thus has a certain influence and impact with his writing, statements etc. Ask any ordinary fisherman to name a pike angler and chances are you'll get Nev or Gord as a response. Therefore it's far better to have him on-board and singing from the main hymn sheet rather than confusing issues from the side.

At a time when we need to be doing all we can to unify the sport (there's that phrase again) now is as good a time as any to bury whatever hatchets exist and start afresh. Insisting on apologies is always going to be asking the imposible from some people because it just reopens the original sores. Some people are also never going to admit they were wrong even if they were (and this isnt a comment on this case) simply because they're too stubborn or pig-headed. Far better therefore just to agree to try and start afresh with a clean slate.

This does not mean that PAC is forgiving or forgetting that certain anglers allowed their ambition to completely overrule their judgement, but that it is prepared to start afresh for the sake of the sport. I would think that for the majority of the anglers concerned the simple fact that they were named and kicked out of PAC would have been highly embarrassing and probably punishment enough. In my mind therefore it is a correct decision that they should be allowed to rejoin if they so desire and I think it is an honourable thing for the PAC to do.

The above is a personal opinion based on what I've read in the press or on here. I'm not a pike angler nor a member of PAC and thus have no inside knowledge and no axes to grind. If I have any facts wrong them please accept my apologies, but it doesn't change my view that the PAC have done a good thing here.
