It's all over the news. And I hope it's the beginning of the end of the war in Afghanistan. It won't happen overnight, and I wouldn't be surprised if there were reprisal attacks shortly, but I live in hope.

"Details are emerging of how al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden was found and killed at a fortified compound on the outskirts of Abbottabad in north-west Pakistan.

 

It is just 800 yards from the Pakistan Military Academy, an elite military training centre, which correspondents say is Pakistan's equivalent to Britain's Sandhurst military training academy.

 

The compound lies within Abbottabad's military cantonment - it is likely the area would have had a constant and significant military presence and checkpoints. "

US forces have his body and they are sure it is very dead.

 

Apparently his body has been "disposed of" at sea already!

Good.

His death will provide closure for a lot of families.

It will also cut one more head from the hydra - sure enough, more will spring up but I doubt they'll be as charismatic, as weathly or as much of a figurhead as Bi-Laden who gave the impression that it was possible to spread chaos and thumb ones nose at the US and evade their every effort to catch and kill him - right up until his luck ran out.

 

Al-Qaida isn't going to go away just yet but with the death of the one man who was it's unchallenged leader, hopefully the infighting will start.

good news indeed ,and maybe a bit of closure for the families of the attacks he helped organise,also good to see US special forces getting it right, and have said they worked with pakistan (not sure about that one . bin laden , saddam , gaddafi ? next

Gadaffi has been busy saying the the opposition to him in Lybia is Al-Qaeda backed, so that NATO has been 'helpin' AQ...

Now after all this time the Americans report Bin Laden's death, but there is no body to show!....did the Americans up the ante because of the unrest in so many Islamic countries, and really get their man? are we expected to take it all on face value? perhaps I'm too cynical, but there seems to be more questions than answers.

I agree that the timing is a little odd comming as it does in the run up to the 10th aniversary of 9/11 and just as the US presidential race is starting up.

As distasteful as it may be, they need to show the body or the conspiracy theorists are going to go nuts.
