Those perch sound great, did you catch them at range or close in, just curious as I always think of perch as being nearer to the margins ?

 

Me too, but these ones were hanging around the end of a bar about 30 yards out. The margins weren't very deep in the swim I was in though.

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

Interesting stuff, I've only ever caught perch at that kind of range in the Lakedistrict in large waters. what kind of depth do you reckon they where in ? Was it bunches of maggots/ worms that they took a fancy too ?

In the sun they were at the bottom in 7ft of water, when the cloud cover came they went up the bar to shallower water, about 4-5ft. I didn't have lobs with me so I used 4 maggots on a size 12 hook. It was all a bit improvised really, I wasn't expecting perch and had to cobble some stuff together when I realised they were there!

And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music

plus perch of 2.04, 2.09, 3.01 and 3.07, but no bream despite very good conditions. Wrong place again! But I thought you may be interested in the perch (the tench were small fry compared to what else was caught at the weekend!). The first one was an accident on fake maggots and bolt rig intended for bream but after that I swapped to a running lead and real maggots and had the others.

 

Cracking group of Perch and nice to hear about a few been caught :thumbs:

I just sorted the camera out, here's a quick snap of the 3.07 - quite deep and chunky for a Wingham perch:
