Having problems since upgrading to win7

Has the IT guy just upgraded or made a full OS installation?

If he hasn't wiped the original virus then it is pointless continuing. If he has wiped the virus he should at least know what it was.

I would advise that you to try someone else. Multiple attempts to resolve the issues you describe have ended without resolution.

As to running 2 different OS together, I have never heard of it but cannot say it is not possible.

To me it seems the IT guy may be preying on your lack of knowledge.

If you use him again, you tell him the following:

I want you to fully format my HD and install a genuine Win7, premium or ultimate, from scratch.

Tell him also to create a recovery disk after installation.

Also make sure that he gives you the product key and Disk.

If he has used a genuine product the key and Disk is yours by right.

Once that is done buy a mainstream Internet security programme and install it before you connect to the internet.

There are many out there but buy one of the top 5.

Look for the WHICH guide to computing, it is very helpful.

NOT Wishing to say I know anymore than anyone else.... But I was also of the opinion that once a drive has been formatted it is formatted and nothing will remain on it? Different if you are DELETING something!! Deleting a file (Which is what I'm thinking you are about?) is a different matter.

And yes I can assure you that it is possible to run two different OS's on the one drive. In fact I am at present running three! Xp Pro, Ubuntu and Win7 64bit. ALL are fine... well Win 7 is showing it's true colours a bit! BUT that is I think due to hardware which will not work directly and needs a kick up the nineties! (See new thread!)

And the AV suite?? I can quite honestly with NO hesitation advise you to install ESET As has been said you CAN get a 30 day trial. Don't bother!! Get the full suite and pay your money, I did it around 4 years ago and the one thing I have NOT and to bother with is problems with any viruses or anything unwanted!!

Good luck my friend!

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

Thanks for your input Chris.

I have the PC back, it does work but ( there always a but ) he said he had to take out a graphics card, he said there is one built in and unless i'm a gamer it will not have much effect on my using the PC.

I'm not a gamer, the card is a SAPPHIRE HD2600 PRO.

He said he has done a clean install.

Up to now i've only found two hiccups, i can't stay logged into any forum ( i've done the Ctrl/ refresh ) and i havent as yet found a free camera RAW programme that will work with win 7.

Thanks guys for all your help/advice and suggestions, being a numpty i do appreciate it all.

Cheers Fred

I was going to direct you to Adobe to update Camera Raw, but looking at Adobe here

http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/ex...l#digitalcamera

it says it doesn't support CS4, no mention of CS3Ex.

Perhaps if you ask on this Forum about it you may get some better advice

Well my tale of woe is almost over.

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. photo shop update did the trick with camera raw. How did i miss that.

After four round trips of 160 Ks to get the PC fixed a guy i know who dabbles in electrics asked if he could have a look at it. I thought well i've got nothing to lose now.

He backed up everything and formatted the hard drive. Loaded win7 32 bit and it worked.

He rang me to go over and we switched it on and off a few times and everything was hunky dory.

He couldn't understand why i had been having all the problems so he asked me to get my monitor.

It's the Bl@@dy monitor thats faulty, the IT guy never once mentioned that it may be the monitor and me not being computer savvy didn't even think of that. DUH

I lost some freebie programmes along the way but it's now just a case of remembering what they were.

So slowly i'm putting back on, my programmes that i have discs for but the nero 7 programme will not install, oops here we go again :lol:

I will email them and ask for advice and i am on the lookout for a new monitor in the end of year sales.

This forum has to be the best for getting help and advice from.

Thanks to all who tried to help me.
