Wingham Fish-In 2011 Catch Reports

I got the total to four perch, an eel and a tench. That pike which kept biting me off grabbed one of the perch and I very nearly got them both in the net. The pike then stationed itself at the end of my platform, waiting for more free perch and aiming itself at my terminal tackle on the retrieve. It wouldn't leave until I poked it with my rod, and even then it didn't go far, cheeky little beast!

Did it look around 9lb? I've had a fish at 9lb 2oz and 9lb 6oz from that swim this year and I am sure it's the same fish and think I may have had it last Autumn at 10 6oz. I am sure it lives under the platform or in the snags to the right. Seems to have a liking for feeders  and sure it's the same fish that took a Perch a few weeks ago. Also seems to like following hooked Tench in, but cage feeders seem it's favourite sport.

First of all a big thank you to Steve and all the team for a great day again at Wingham and the fishery looked in fantastic condition reflecting all the hard work that had been put in.

This year I was unsuccessful, but that did not take away from the joy of being at Wingham to just soak up the atmosphere.

I would like to mention some notable catches and congratulate Elton, that is a wonderful looking Carp, Andrew on his PB Carp, Dales on that great haul of eels and targeted for as well and Rusty on that very large PB Tench, well done to you all.

Richard.

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

"Even a bad day of fishing is better than a good day of work."

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

Well done to all, some great fish there. Unfortunately work put paid to my attempts to reach Wingham but thanks for the opportunity Steve.......maybe next year!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Did many fish with worms? The big Perch that tend to turn up at the Fish-Ins, do not seem to have been caught.

The final total of fish caught was well down on previous years but they certainly made up for it with the weights!

No less than 18 personal bests were landed.

Of the 19 female tench caught just over half were 8lbs+, topped by Rusty's superb 10-02.

Wingham "virgins" often do well and Rusty's a good example, especially as he's primarily a river angler and had no experience of waters like Wingham before. I think we may have converted him!

On the Carp Lake we had a twenty plus 2 thirties, but the highlight has to be the incredible average size of the eels caught by the 3 who targeted them. Amazingly 24 of the 28 caught were over 3lbs, topped by Dales' big haul of specimens up to 4-13. We've already had two eels of 5-08 from the Carp Lake this season and I think I'll be paying it a visit or two in the evenings when the nights are longer!

I hope you all had a great time, and many congratulations to those who caught personal bests!

Russ and I both had worms on at least one rod during the day, but switched them over to boilies/corn at night!

I also had worm on one rod during the Sunday fished over chopped worms and red maggot and I lost what I think was an eel (hook length came back with a knot in it) and got bitten of by a pike.... no perch though, although Steve said the swim wasn't known for Perch.

Here's a better photo of it:

33-2.jpg

Last night was WEIRD!

SOMETHING was systematically slaughtering bunnies right outside my bivvy. Seriously, the screeching was doing my head in and I kept going out and scaring whatever it was off, but it would return two minutes later and the massacre would start again. Stoat or weasel, probably.

I'd spent the weekend watching a family of baby bunnies playing in my swim. I have a feeling there are a few empty seats around the little bunny dinner table tonight :(

on my way back down the path from the water I had a large dog fox trotting along in front of me without a care in the world and a bunny in its gob, just as I reached for my phone / camera it went to cross in front of me, thought better of it and departed into the left hand hedge. maybe your culprit Elton.

As the others have already acknowledged may I add my gratitude to all involved, Steve,Peggy ,Glyn, Terry, Sam, Anderoo, Richard,Steve , Paul, All the syndicate members.

What a fabulous gesture you all make every year. THANK YOU ALL :D :D :D
