Wingham Fish-In 2011 Catch Reports

If I remember rightly, I was bitten off four times by pike - a couple of those screaming runs where you strike at nothing and the rig comes back sans hook, and two that I played for a while. Of those two, one bit through as I reached for the landing net, and the other I didn't see, but it somehow bit me off above the feeder. The one I got a good luck at looked a lot like the perch-grabber, and I think it was also the other one I played for a bit and one of the phantom runners. The one that ate my feeder was hooked at about 50 yards out, so I think that might have been a different one!

edit - that doesn't add up, does it, must have been five bite-offs, three of them played for a bit.

Time for some thanks.

Firstly, and most importantly, the bailiffs. Without Terry and Glyn Wingham wouldn't be what it is today, and there certainly wouldn't be a Fish-In. When you consider that they're unpaid volunteers it's all the more remarkable. Yes, they get free fishing, but they're often both so exhausted they just collapse in their bivvies and don't fish.

Terry's daughter Sam has been a great help, always willing to do anything, and always with a smile on her face. As a thank you Glyn has bought her a rod licence, and Tincatinca (Paul Westcott) presented her with her first fishing rod at the weekend. Cheers, guys!

Big thanks are owed to Wyeknot (Steve Campbell) for the donation of beer plus bacon sarnies for the early arrivers, not to mention all the laminated satellite photos. Thanks too go to Rob Ward for the huge blow-ups of these photos in the clubhouse.

We're also indebted to syndicate members, Richard Capper, Anderoo and Tincatinca who kindly drove long distances and gave up their time to help guests, especially newcomers. Thanks also to Budgie and Andrew Burgess who helped ferry guests and their gear around the complex.

Last but by no means least, many thanks to my wife Peggy who, quite apart from doing a lot of the office work, shopped for and cooked almost 100 BBQs over the weekend. She never complains, and what's more she's got 3 more members' BBQs to do over the summer!

Lovely fish Chris and a cracking report. You have achieved what many have failed to do for many years of trying. I bet you wish now that you had brought a centrepin with you as I am sure that now you have the taste you will want more. Excellent result.

Rusty, congratulations that's a stonker of a Tench!

That fish looks young as well, can't wait for my next trip!!!

I agree, it must be one of the best looking tench I've ever seen, a real beauty.

A good report from everyone, from Dales eel juggling antics, to Eltons carp.

Commiserations Elton, you fish the Eel Lake, and end up with a carp!

Never mind, there's always next year. :D

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John
