The SACG was formed to represent specialist angling groups at a political level. To date with small resources it has been successful in doing what has been requested of it. However it has known for some years that it could not take on a major campaign like anti angling by itself. The very reason it has been working with other angling organisations for the past four years to set up the NAA. Yes I know it sounds crazy to have taken so long, but that demonstrates just how difficault some of the politics for some of the others were. Anyway that's history, now we can move forward. It is important for all anglers to play a role by supporting the NAA, they can join any of the member organistions they feel best supports their own aspects of the sport. If they feel they can play an active role so much the better as I'm sure we all need more manpower. Of course as we know it is only the minority who really care and that will probably always remain the case until something happens to endanger our sport. By then if we are not prepared and organised it could be too late.

A major marketing plan could be the answer, making anglers aware of what is going on. Difficault in reaching them as I know from my past work with the Professional Anglers Association. Despite great help from the angling press only around 10% of anglers could be reached. Tried via the EA who hold a database of all rod licence purchasers and now produce their own magazine sent to all. However a) they didn't want to get involved with anything political and B) felt that under the data protection act could not make the list available. I have again this year been in touch with the Agency and await a response.

Any further ideas and help would be gratefully received.

Alan.

You got me Paul biggrin.gif

Alan, thank you for the information. I think it extremely important we have discussions such as this one and others on the forum today. I, for one will support - but in which area yet - I'm not sure!

Hello again Alan. I like all types of course fishing. Having recently returned to the sport, I have felt a little bit like a beginner again. Certain aspects having changed over the years, it has meant me posing all sorts of questions on here and other forums, on other sites - but I'm getting my confidence back. I therefore do not specialise nor do not consider myself 'expert' in any way shape or form - on the contrary, in fact! I would at some stage like to become more active in supporting our sport, but something perhaps for the future?? For the time being, I just want to enjoy what at present I love most - fishing!

I realise we are going to come up against stiff opostition but I don't see PETA as the main threat. Whne people see that there pets or any animals they eat or ride or use will be next on petas list we may get some support. Also I have never had a hostile reaction from anyone while fishing about me fishing so people can't be that much against fishing.

Jon.

I hope you are right, I fear that by the time the antis have put some propaganda out, we may be in for a rougher ride. Remember the swan and lead shot issue?. A few posters of ducks hanging from trees by discarded line and we will be presented as the biggest villains since the krays.

I remember a time when people used to admire fur coats...how times change.
