Looks very similar to this. I suspect the quality will be very low looking at these and also the price. I know they are a basic bit of kit but I really dont think for that price they can produce anything of any quality.

EDIT: I have also just noticed that the rods on the inside of the spool also appear to be coated in plastic. Seems a recipe for damage and disaster to me

Well spotted ATS. It's a re-branded Shadowlanda reel, I bought one to test earlier this year on the basis that any other new 'pin would cost in the order of £100 and it might be ok for people wanting to try trotting without a big investment. Now that the Cortesi is £30 I don't think the Shadowlanda is worth considering;

http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/forums/Season-...7-entry669.html

It is crudely made but quite durable in that if you drop it you can simply bend it back to shape. There are no cast components it's all aluminium plate, the ballraces are tiny and sound rough but it does spin quite well and essentially it does the job. The major issue I had was that the line bearers are sleeved with (in my case) black plastic and the reel isn't constructed well enough for the plastic to butt right up against the inside of the drum plates. As a consequence my braid kept getting trapped between the line bearer sleeving and the drum. As you say, a recipe for disaster.

If the Cortesi wasn’t available I’d say it’s worth a punt at a tenner but be prepared to fettle it straight from the box. It’s a bit academic now though.

It's never a 'six', let's put it back

I'd say avoid this like the plague. I bought one and sent back as unfit for purpose, as I said at the time if a big fish scowled at this it would literally c*** itself and fall to bits. Badly made junk! Go for the Marco Cortesi.

I bought one of the Cortesi reels a while back and have been pleased with it, well worth the money. I must admit I had my doubts as to what you would get for £10.

I was pleased with my Cortesi up until the pawl fell out of the ratchet system (god only knows how) and into the river douglas. Now I am pretty annoyed as they have ignored the last 2 emails I have sent them about getting my money back. Going to ring them on monday and ask them what they are playing at.

That does not sound very good.

Thanks for the heads up on the Cortesi reel, bad luck the pawl fell into the river, maybe try getting just the new pawl if you like the reel. I've been using a Fred Crouch Aerial type pin for a year now and it is performing well, a lot more expensive though, I think it will last many years, it's simple and well made.

Well I am looking at getting an Okuma sheffield or something around that price bracket in two weeks so chances are it will never get used again after that. Also I doubt they would bother sending me one if they can't even respond to an email.

The Okumas look like great reels and as to the other lot, well the internet is a great place to permanently lose customers because bad service tends to get reported in more depth than good service. Good luck in your search for a new pin.
