yea makes no sense at all. ignorance isnt bliss my friend it just makes you look ignorant....

Like I said, if the cap fits... you were the one mentioning loud mouthed stereotypes...you certainly seem to fit in.

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Hi Specimensean

I am looking for a couple of carp rods to help me with my long range bream fishing.

Is this a bad time to ask if the fox warrior s with full cork handle would be a good choice.

regards

I have no idea about bream fishing John (not that i dont fish for other species) but what i do know is that the Warrior rods, for the money, are very good and again, for the money, there isnt much that competes. From the Bream ive caught whilst carping though (and some bigish ones, nr double figures) i can say that on a carp rod there isnt much fight. Even on a 2 3/4tc rod if i remember right. I hope you were being genuine! :D

Hi mate

yes definately being genuine. I need bigger rods for the distance as my 1.75lb test rods will not quite get where I want into the wind.

I am not too worried about the fighting aspect as bream don't fight much anyway.

I must admit I was also trying to lighten the thread a little.

Have a look at the Warrior barbel rods, 2 1/4 tc, full cork. Bet they would be ideal. What are you casting (max weight) and how far?

I am looking at about 80 to 100 yards and probably will have to ditch feeders and go to straight leads. With feeders they can be up to 5ozs. Leads obviously the usual 2 to 3oz. If I use leads I may still feel like using a small bag or stocking to hold a few freebies close to hook. I would feel a bit like being naked without anything near hook after fishing feeders so long. Feeders also can tangle easily when fishing distance so I may need some help with rigs.

I have heard that barbel rods do not like casting weights very far and can break. Something about the action being wrong.

Please keep posting and reading here as I need some help changing to more carp style fishing for the bigger bream.

Please read my recent posting of my weekends fishing and you will get an idea where I am headed.

Any other questions I have I will start another post so thanks again

right from reading that then you need a solid casting rod. I would recommend a 2 3/4tc which should enable you to hit those distances with those weight. The thing is even though i wouldnt really consider 100 yards "long distance" you still need the whole setup to be adequate to reach those distances consitently and safely. I.e, heavier line, bigger reels etc. I have some 2 3/4 tc's that when paired with a shimano superbaitrunners and 12lb line can really fling some weights out there. I used to be quite proud about how far i could chuck a 2oz lead with a 6ft boat rod. That had more to do with technique then setup. I used literally stand in a field practicing my cast. It worked!]

When i want to get bait tight to the hook at distance i opt for stick mixes over bags. The beauty about a stick mix is that it can be threaded onto the hook link and helps prevent tangles on the cast. So you get an anti tangle device and freebies at your hook bait in one! Also, because its inline with the rig it casts a lot better than a bag.

Brilliant thanks for help.

I already have some large daiwa reels in carp sizes but am also looking at buying 2 new daiwa windcast pit type reels.

The warrior full cork are 2.75lb so I will probably buy a pair of those.

I used to fish for carp a lot before puddles were invented and appreciate the difference between real carp anglers and the commercial followers.

Most of the best conversations I have at different venues I fish are with carp anglers. Them helping me with the bream location and me helping them with carp spotting. And of course I put the time and effort in with whole weekends spent at venues much like the carp anglers.

I do catch a few carp aswell. :D

Oh dear, here we go again. A few hours ago there was a bit of light hearted banter, and micky taking, (I'm pretty sure Phone didn't feel insulted, and he can take it, as well as he can give it), then someone has to get all sensitive and upset, and it starts to get nasty.

If you are happy, content and confident in what you do Sean, then why get upset about what someone else says? I don't understand why anyone should feel insulted about anything to do with angling, It's angling for crying out loud, not an attack on a relative, or close friend. It isn't even an attack on a style of angling, it's about the inane stocking policies, and over commercialisation/exploitation of our natural environment.

If we can't laugh at ourselves, then then we give up any right to laugh at others.

John.

PS, there is an 'ignore' feature on this site. So if anyone feels that any member might post something upsetting, they can put that member on 'ignore', and save themselves stress.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

I'm sorry Gozza. Your arguments about carp may be right, may be wrong or may contain a bit of both.

But what is apparent is that earlier posters on this post have just been downright rude...

I can understand why anglers such as Anderoo are giving the site a break for a bit and why Specimen Sean feels a bit put upon.

Some of the behaviour on this site recently is a long way from humourous and simply insulting... :(
