try carping next year for the whole year, and only try to catch carp. try to catch the biggest one you can find, and i bet you try rigs of alsorts and use high-tech gear and i bet you will post on this next year and say.. why did you make this thread...

please remember there are a lot of different kind of fishermen and a lot of different fishing, enjoy what you do and don't let others bother you :) peace out.

p.s rig putty pulls the hook down for a more aggressive hooking.

i don't get why you had to put the word "stupid at the end... it's not polite..

Coarse fishing is almost purely for pleasure since most anglers do not keep & eat their catch.

If it pleases some anglers to use all the latest gear & rigs, where's the harm? No one forces you to so why try to force others not to?

I use lures most of the time. I don't catch as many fish as I might with meat or insects or lives but I have more fun.

When I fish for carp I use simple rigs and simple baits but only because my fish are not pressured. If going fancy gave me more takes or if I enjoyed experimenting with new rig styles, that's what I'd do but I certainly would not fuss at you if you held a different view.

Roach,

First, Hi Newt!

Roach,

Haven't been on AN for awhile but here's an observation from across the pond. That is with many English anglers it is not a matter of catching fish. A friend from Georgia puts it this way, "it's not the destination, it's the journey".

I've come to believe that about you guys.

(Newt, any chance you posting a picture of the famous and failsafe "Newt knot"?

I crashed the PC that had it but I'll scout around.

Don't stay away so long Phone, old friend.

Drop me a PM with your email if you want to keep in touch.

KISS as an acronym has much merit in many walks of life - not just angling - though Keep It Short & Simple is somewhat more polite.

However, kicking off your AN 'career' with such a post will have you marked down as a troll! :D

Sorry, two lines is not much of a rant, more of a casual observation ;)

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity

Yeagh a pretty pi$$ poor rant against Crap Yobs! We have some masters of it on here! ;)

I m stuck between KISS and Deans reply. My attitude though is that a some"fancy" bits can make the rig much better.....however they must be used correctly and in the right situation. It seems that far too many of todays carp fishers dont know enough of the basics to know what constitutes correct and right though!

Going straight in with advanced methods, tactics and tackle is a recipie for disaster if ever there was one! Also there is another reason that a lot of guys use extra bits that are unecessery for their situation and thats simply because they honestly think (through marketing?) that adding/using product "X" will instantly give them sucsess! If only that it was so simple.

I can understand how it may seem to Roachlover but despite what Ive said above I think its a bit unfair to comment in a negative way if youve not actually done a lot of specialist carp fishing. Kind of what Dean said.

Now Ive done loads of carping! (lots on here tend to forget that and my current involvement in the big carp scene)and I spent many years (despite having fished for as equally many not specifically for carp) with a boillie for a brain and being equally as daft so I feel that gives me a right to comment! :P

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
