this subject has been beaten to death!! The general concensus is that, Pound for Pound, Gudgeon take a hellofalot of beating - but as they only grow to a few ounces, that doesn't help!!

However - Imagine having a 10lb gudgeon on your line!!!!!! :fishing::help::help::help::help::black_eye:

Swan mussels.. always put up a solid resistance!

I say twigfish beats them all hands down....once you get a mature one (or branchius fishius as they are known in latin) then say bye bye to your hooklength.

Don't forget them freshwater rocks not as big or as powerful as their salt water cousins but they still hang on :) :) :)

If you manage to hook a plastic bag when the rivers in flood then you've got a fight on your hands!!!!

I once hooked a plastic patio chair while spinning on the canal and that put a propper bend in my rod, but I played it in ok, I didn't bother weighing it, just threw it up the bank.

Although I concede that the gudgeon gives a great fight pound for pound. I can't believe that no-one has said Barbel; as pound for pound they give a briliant fight on adequate tackle. especially after reading Bream was a choice???

NB. After catching a few small (3lb to 6lb) Barbel on a small stream the other night; I thought that I had hooked a smallish chub because of the lack of fight; it turned out to be a healthy looking 6lb Carp.
