In loving memory of my best friend

The thing I remember most about this story was last year, on his 50th, when Budgie told it to me. The need to gasp for air through laughing was bad enough, until Cosworth let rip a 'silent but violent' fart, making the need for air even more desperate.

RIP Cosworth - who truly made friends wherever he went. I hope Hound Heaven as a great place for you.

Budgie, sorry to hear your news mate. Been in the same position a few times and always hard. Sounds like he had a great life left and a fair few good memories. None of us can ask for much more.

Let's agree to respect each others views, no matter how wrong yours may be.

Sorry to hear about that mate, unfortunately that's the real cost of having pets, they don't live long enough and one day you always have to say goodbye.

The Power of the Dog

by

Rudyard Kipling

There is sorrow enough in the natural way

From men and women to fill our day;

And when we are certain of sorrow in store,

Why do we always arrange for more?

Brothers and sisters, I bid you beware

Of giving your heart to a dog to tear.

Buy a pup and your money will buy

Love unflinching that cannot lie--

Perfect passsion and worship fed

By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head.

Nevertheless it is hardly fair

To risk your heart to a dog to tear.

When the fourteen years which Nature permits

Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits,

And the vet's unspoken prescription runs

To lethal chambers or loaded guns,

Then you will find--it's your own affair--

But ... you've given your heart to a dog to tear.

When the body that lived at your single will,

With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!)

When the spirit that answered your every mood

Is gone--wherever it goes--for good,

You will discover how much you care,

And will give your heart to a dog to tear.

We've sorrow enough in the natural way,

When it comes to burying Christian clay.

Our loves are not given, but only lent,

At compound interest of cent per cent.

Though it is not always the case, I believe,

That the longer we've kept 'em, the more do we grieve:

For, when debts are payable, right or wrong,

A short-term loan is as bad as a long--

So why in--Heaven (before we are there)

Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear?

That's sad news sorry to hear that, Budgie.

That tales a classic though, I remember telling it to Stacy after she met Cos that time at Wingham! First time I read it was a genuine coffee/keyboard moment!

sad news mate ,dogs so easily become part of your extended family ,so their passing is always a big loss and leaves a void .but they also leave us memories to cherish .

Sad news indeed mate...........brilliant story though, what dogs are best at, making you laugh........afterwards!

Eating wild caught fish is good for my health, reduces food miles and keeps me fit trying to catch them........it's my choice to do it, not yours to stop me!

Sorry for your loss Budgie, losing a companion, whether furred or feathered is always painful but it has to be that way for there to be that special bond.

As my Grandad told me when my first Cat, Snowy, passed away, "Tears will water the garden in your heart, where she will always play".

And she does to this day...

Brilliant story Budgie, sad to hear the news :(

Dogs usually always deliver on the comedy when out and about, the older of our 2 dogs likes to get his nose every where he can and although I'd love to witness the same circumstance that came your way, bobo is a bit too small to cause that much body to be on display :D
