Silver mepps spinners

I did fairly well with spinners made by Shakespeare. In fact a chub was one of the first fish I caught here. The spinner had a flourecent orange body and a black blade, another I had luck with had a silver body with a gold blade. Perch seem to like the flourescent yellow and don't seem to care about the color of the blade and oh right... Don't forget the trace.

I second that. Nothing stopping a pike (even BIG pike) having a go! Wasn't the record pike caught on a mepps spinner??

LOL - Martin, I didn't see this thread until I posted the Lure angling, cheap for small species piece but it might be something to consider.

Baby Bass Oreno's are excellent, but hard to find at a reasonable price.

The Bomber lures that look like a Shakespeare little 'S' are also very good.

 

I find most little (up to around 5cm) crankbaits in silver, gold, or fairly natural patterns work well, I don't do so good on patterns with bright colours such as firetiger.

Agree that Mepps types are good - size 1 black and gold is hard to beat on my waters - there used to be one called "Black Fury" Gold spinner, black with yellow spots on one side: deadly.

Hi Martin, as they are greedy fish with big mouths try plugs like the Big-S , Manns 1 Minus fished just subsurface, surface lures like Crazy crawlers, Ace Tiptops and if it gets real weedy a MossBoss lure.

Can't wait for the rivers to open !
