Pump Problem

Im currently experiencing a problem with my pond pump. Initially when I trun it on it works fine for upto 24hrs (sometimes less) then it starts to loose power and slowly starts to deliver less water to the filter, eventually stopping. If I turn the pump off for a few seconds and restart then everything is fine and the process starts again with the pump loosing power inside of 24 hours, often it sops working overnight or looses at least half the power.

What is happeing ? will I need a new pump ?

have you cleaned it thoroughly ,not just the filter if it has one but throughout the impeller and channels.

the green slime builds up in them due to the amount of oxygenated water that goes through and perhaps its a build up of it thats clogging things up.perhaps a blasting from both ends with a jet of water will flush it out?

if it can be stripped thats the route i would take and clean it thoroughly with a bottle brush

Cheers Chesters,

Ive given it a good cleaning this evening and will wait and see if that helps. Failing that Ill have to get a new one, but no worries as they arent too expensive.

Glenn, this "loss of power" happens quite regularly with my stream pump. I turn off and let the water drain back through the pump which washes out the debri, turn on again and it is back to normal. I do this about once a month. Very little large debri ever gets to the pump as the water returns to a small pond and then overflows into a sump. This has a 1/4" mesh over the top to filter off any leaves etc.

Been running fine for about 5 years now :)
