By far one of our best destinations for a fairly cheaper alternative to catch big Peacock Bass and Payara/Vampire fish has to be HFC or Headwaters Fishing Club on Lake Guri in Venezuela.

There is no better place for a combo-Peacock/Payara trip anywhere in the world. Both species can be caught on topwater lures, subsurface minnows and deepdivers and also spinnerbaits, jigs, flies, the lot!

My biggest Payara to date was a whopping 25lbs last June and came on an SOB 1oz Guri Special Spinnerbait. My largest Peacock Bass was a huge 22lb 'Paca' specimen on a mullet Super Spook walk-the-dog bait.

The camp is so comfortable that makes it ideal for kids, families, couples and partners alike.
