Somewhat surprisingly, some anglers advocate the release of carp after capture while others have been known to illegally translocate these fish to help their distribution.

I have had the experience of fishing the Murray-Darling system for Australian native fish (Murray Cod, Trout Cod, Callop, Silver Perch etc etc)

 

I did eventually catch some, but locating these fish was not easy, as many stretches were over-run with carp. Whatever bait you used - worms, the native "yabbie" or crayfish, meat, squid, whatever - the carp got there first.

 

Spinning seemed the only way to go - except that carp had muddied the water to the extent that spinning was not that effective.

 

It is no wonder the local advice was "don't throw carp up the bank to rot - cut their throats and put them back for the yabbies"

I'd happily see the same happen here.

 

Interesting though that they identify distinct varieties or races of carp where here where they're suposedly loved, we rarely make any distinctions.

Yet...The carp were introduced about 150yrs ago, and found the conditions to their liking.

Many waters over here have only had them introduced over the last 30yrs, and even if the conditions make spawning sporadic, then the constant topping up will ensure that their numbers increase.
