I'm a Carper, Piker, Barbeler, Tencher, Chubber and some say W....r!

I'll be happy fishing for whatever turns up at Wingham, just being there is a pleasure.

Come the Sunday afternoon I'll be off for a crack at the Carp at Orchid Lakes.

Steve / anyone else who can help !

None of my local Tackle shops seem to stock micro/whisker barb hooks in sizes large enough to fish lobworms on, does anyone know of an online stockist where I'll be able to get hold of some in time for the fish-in ?

Mat, most modern carp hooks have got micro/whisker barbs. However, they're too thick in the wire for my liking for perch etc. Instead I suggest you try looking at Aberdeen sea hooks, although few have micro barbs. One pattern that does is the Kamasan B940, that I use myself in size 6. This is the smallest available in this pattern, and is finer in the wire than the larger sizes. It's stocked by nearly all good tackle shops.

Ahh I've been using barbless for just about all my fishing for as long as I can remember! the only barbed hooks I have were bought for sea fishing, I have some drennan super specialists I bought in sizes 6 and 8 for a black bream trip, I guess they'll be ok for the Wingham trip then!

2 weeks to go and still only 9 bookings!

With a cold northerly wind I went fish spotting on Monday evening and found a bream out of the wind on a marginal shelf in just 3ft of water. At first light on Wednesday I caught it or its mate - my first deliberate one from a stillwater! At 14lbs exactly it beat my previous pb by two ounces.

I also had a 2-08 perch and a brace of tench in a gap in a bar. All the fish came to a lobworm/corn cocktail, with the corn flavoured with one of Archie Braddock's fruit products.

By the way, the water is beginning to colour up as it usually does at this time of year. However, a recce in the boat showed no weed whatsoever, including in the vast majority of the lake that wasn't treated with herbicide. It may start to grow with the water warming up, but usually this would have happened already.

Leon, as only 9 Forum members have booked they'll be plenty of room for you to sneak in and you'll be very welcome - that is if you don't tell the weather gods you're coming!
