Hi all

I am looking to buy a bivvy, I wont use it that often(mainly in summer)so it does'nt have to be a brilliant one. It needs to be 2 man and i am looking to spend about £100 possibly £150 can anyone recomend one or a good site where i might find one.

Thanks in advance Paul mc

P.S it has to have a ground sheet

I would have a serious look at the Shakespear Cypry Dome. Not a bad dome at all for the money. It's stable, roomy, and extremely waterproof. There are better bivvy's out there, but for summer use it is hard to beat and you can pick up one for £80 or less....

I second that - and I have also used mine through the winter.

If you have a good Scout/Camping type shop nearby you can get a replacement set of alloy poles made up quite cheaply which is all you really need to winterize a bivvy (I assume the Cypry poles are glass to keep the price down, glass becomes quite brittle in low temperatures).

I don't know much about bivvys but I've been a keen backpacker and mountaineer for many years and believe me the difference in tent performance is not reflected in the price by any means. A relatively cheap tent equipped with a good pole set often performs as well as one costing four or five times as much. Since weight isn't an issue to static carpers the difference is even less.

I've used a cypry for a few years now. You can gwt them a lot cheaper than now than when I got mine. I did seal the seams & sprayed it before use (and every year)

I believe the new ones out are bigger than my 'model' as well but I still have room for 2 & all of Liams toys & books he takes along eek.gif All three of us have slept in it when Matthew will 'lower' his self from his 'Hutchie' rolleyes.gif

I have heard the Leeda one is good although I have not seen one.

Hi Paul, as the others have already said, go for the Cypry! wink.gif

Failing that, do as I did and blow £400 on a Nash Viper and winter skin, it's no warmer or dryer than a Cypry! frown.gif

All the best,

If ever I open a shop, I'm opening next door to Gaffer and a couple of people on the 'How Much?' thread biggrin.gif

My Hutchy Geo 2+2 is quite nice. How much can you get one of those for?

All the best,

Elton
