Shy fish

Why is it that a known fish "disappears" and remains uncaught for some time? In some cases the fish is much bigger, so it must have been feeding in the meantime.

What's brought this up is that Wingham has just produced another big carp at 33lbs 6ozs. This is a fully scaled specimen that hasn't been out for a couple of years but has had a big growth spurt in the meantime.

Does this just happen with carp, or is it that carp are easy to tell apart so the recapture is more noticeable?

Years ago when this used to happen with fish,

IE: A known fish would not be seen for years then wham it would get caught.

What was said then was that the fish concerned had just gone onto eating natural food rather than anglers baits. Wether this was to avoid capture because of bad experiences with anglers baits who knows, If that is the reason in the first place.

Or is it that some fish are good at ejecting rigs, Ken Townley once said that he saw a carp suck in a rig and blow it out with no trouble at all, thing was at the time it was supposed to be one of the best anti eject rigs about at the time being used by other known anglers.

I think, but could be wrong that it was the looney extension rig being used by Rob Maylin and others with great success at other waters.

They played on while the reel handles spun in unison.
