Catfish dudes - please help!

I'm going to have a crack at Carp and Catfish this weekend at Burton Mere on the Wirral. The Catfish here are fond of Activ-8 boilies.

I was reading an article in Pike and Predators written by a CCG guy. He was talking about rigs, in general he uses a resistance free set up and fishes with the bail arm off BUT when he's using boilies as bait he opts for a semi fixed Carp rig and fishes with the baitrunner.

Any thoughts?

Rob,

I personally always fish a running setup for cats and that would probably be a good start where you are fishing. I also use specific cat rigs and baits but then when the cats are onto boilies it is logical to fish for them using boilies. You might however want to use squid or liver on one rod for example. I use quicksilver hooklengths and much bigger and stronger hooks than for carp fishing - at least 2/0's (sea hooks usually - something like cox and rawle uptide extras).

Rob.
