First time i was actually allowed near the water was winter 1969, wanstead flats, with my dad, cant really remember that, proper first time fishing with my own rod was again with my dad also at wanstead, 1972, my uncle john then took over, and ive fished ever since, there are lots of bits inbetween, and lots of fond childhood memories, i wonder how far back we could go in our "fishing tree" like a family tree, but how far fishing goes back in our own kin, could be interesting, and bring back some nice times too.

Smelly nets.

First saw wild fish (bullheads) in a stream at age of 6 (1940)

Caught them by hand.

First used a bushpole, linen thread and bent pin at age 7.

Parents were against fishing - so my home-made gear was hidden beside the waters where I fished.
