I have been fishing (match) for a number of years now, but want to try pike fishing. Can anyone give any ideas of books/mags to read so I can get an idea of what hooks/line/rods to use?

Why is pike fishing so popular? Soon be more pike anglers than pike! Welcome to the ranks of the seriously demented Big Pole. Join the PAC. Its a good club, go along to the nearest regional branch and ask, always someone who will help.

Seriously entertaining book, a few worthwhile hints. Excellent if you are a manufacturer wishing to copy items of tackle. The remainders shelf, Oxfam and car boot sales are likely places if you actually want a copy or I've got a signed one worth thousands. I believe he now specialises in photographing famous pike anglers tackle, these being the subject of his next book. Some very famous pike anglers are very short on the tackle front, quite surprising really.

"How to catch bigger pike from rivers lakes and lochs" written by Paul Gustafson is a favourite of mine.

Agreed, it's a brilliant book. But the author seems to be so senile he's forgotten his own name! wink.gif

I'd also echo Elton in that you start on the PAC book - I did the review here on AN myself. Once you've read that you've a huge number of good books on pike fishing and, unlike with some other species, I can't recall a poor one.

Eddie's tells the story of his pike fishing career but you'll learn a lot from it as well. BTW, Eddie, it's about time you did a follow up!

If there's anything specific you'd like to ask there's quite a number of experienced pikers who contribute to the Forum.
