Some really bad news for newport canal anglers this week, due to some form of pollution almost all the fish on the kimberly stretch down to malpas road have been killed, among the dead fish seen by myself today are roach, perch, pike, carp, chub, tench, and bream. there is a skim of oil on the surface leaving fish gasping for oxygen, this could lead to financial dificulties for Newport AA, a spokes woman for Newport council said " the fish appear to be in distress ans we are trying to find out what the problem is, we are also looking at ways to alleviate the stress on the fish by getting oxygen into the water".

The environment agency have been called in to test the water, although the two stretches of canal are said to be the only waters affected, i also found a dead tench of about five pounds on woodstock ponds, lets hope this a coincidence, and not conected.

I have just spoke to nobby from Newport AA , he said "the EA have taken water samples and the result will be back on monday, the current total of lost fish is now between six and seven hundred fish". This really is devestating news, if anyone has any news or info dont hesitate to contact me.
