Introduction of Zander to Stanborough Lake

Came across this document as part of my snooping around about Zander in the Lea. One of my targets for the coming months is to catch a Lea Zander and while doing some research I found this. Thought it might interest some of you.

That was quite interesting.

I may be wrong but I don't think they have spread any further upstream of WGC though; Our clubs stretches (Verulum AC) are only a couple of miles upstream of Welwyn Garden City and there appears to be none there so far, so any barriers that are in the way upstream seem to work (so far).

Happiness is Fish shaped (it used to be woman shaped but the wife is getting on a bit now)

There are zander in Stanborough lake but you are not allowed to fish for them and any caught accidently are to be killed.

I think that is the current state of play but am happy to be corrected by anybody in the know.

Is pike fishing still banned there as well?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

What is it with bans on predator fishing? There's a nice little club pond down the road from me, which is reputed to hold some massive perch. No spinning allowed, no fish baits allowed, and if you fish lobs you get tenched out.

I was at the place last year with the missus and kids, not fishing. I spoke to the bailiff, He said fishing for pike and zander was allowed, but it was single hook only and that all Zander caught had to be killed. He also said that the place is netted yearly to remove the Zander and check on the health of the other species. I have not bothered to fish there as I will not kill any Zander and if netting is done annually there cant be many Zander about.
