Hi all,

Eels seem to be a popular topic at the moment so I'd like to ask those 'in the know' why there are at least 4 different national eel socs?

AFAIK these are:

British Eel Anglers' Club

Eel Study Group

National Anguilla Club

Eel Conservation Society

What are the differences between the above groups?

I've never fished for eels deliberately but this intrigues me.

It seems to me that's a lot of groups for such a minority specialist interest ... or is it?

This is not meant to be the start of a heavy political thread ... just a point of interest.

Cheers,

Ian.

Hi Ian,

There is actually only 3 eel groups,

The eel conservation society, the National Anguilla Club and the Eel study Group.

The B,E,A,C finished a couple of years ago.

the differance between the eel groups is the N,A,C has a membership open to all regardless of experiance, Eel study group is made up of experianced big eel anglers.

The eel conservation society is an ammalgamtion of the two groups to push conservation issues as a "joint and complimentary voice".

I hope this answers your question.

as you can see there is actually only 2 eel fishing groups. N,A,C and E,S.G.

Thanks Tony,

So what's the difference between the 2 groups then? Do most of you eel guys join both?

Cheers,

Ian.

Hey let's not go there ... this is a totally innocent question ... smile.gif

And besides ... if it starts getting nasty it's my thread and I'll lock it smile.gif

I'm interested in the relationship between these groups that's all ...

Where are the differences?

Ian.

A few members have join both groups but most have decided to stay with one or the other for their own personal reasons.

Im sorry Ian I was posting when you last posted,

The N,A,C as I said is open to all where as the E,S,G I believe have a policy of the applicant having to have been an accoumplished eel angler, with a proven track record, I`m sure an E,S,G member will post and put me right if I am wrong on any of the points i`ve listed.

The relationship between the groups is excellant and as a rep to the eel conservation society on behalf of the N,A,C I would wish it to stay the way it is.
