Coarse & Pike Angling Report Dated June 12th, 2001

Photos Featured on site: Left Frame: Gerard Casey and son Owen with Specimen Tench of 2.860 kilos from Shannonbridge Hot Water June 4th, 2001. Right Frame: Brother – Philip Casey with first ever Specimen tench of 2.980 kilos (6.556lbs) same venue

Generally a mixed week with some centres or rather select venues reporting very good fishing while others proved patchy, hampered by and large by very cool often brisk northerly winds accompanied by night frosts some nights. Daytime temperatures struggled to get over the mid teens on most days. Thankfully at the time of writing, temperatures are recovering and are forecast to rise to about 20 C up to the weekend. Despite the unseasonably cool conditions some lively sport was had by those 'hardier' anglers who braved the elements !.

Angling Highlights

Quite good but not exceptional fishing from a number of venues on the Upper Shannon

More specimen Tench from the Hot Water stretch at Shannonbridge, but be prepared for an all night session !.

Good tench catches from Lough Boora, Kilcormac, Co Offaly

Pike to 20lbs on the River Suck

Super bream fishing again on Lough Derg’s northern shores at Portumna, individual bags to over 200lbs.

Venues on the Shannon at Banagher producing the magical ton + of fish for a number of visiting anglers.

The Grand Canal at Pollagh, near Rahan in Co Offaly still fishing

Lough Derg’s southern shore venues proving a good bet with excellent bream catches reported.

Good tench fishing on the Royal Canal at Grange, Mullingar

East Clare lakes are starting to fish, best time early morning and late evening
