Hmmm...

To be fair, it is hard to see how being a fox hunting supporter and being on the committee of the RSPCA would be considered compatible! smile.gif

If these people love foxes why have they give the farmers a reason to kill them all off. Before the only reason not to was because of the hunt.It is much easier to poison or trap or shoot vermin or pests than to hunt them down,in fact I think the odds were in favour of the fox its a shame we will miss the odd glimpse or the wild fox,you may see one going through your bins if you live in town along with the rats.I am moving from London to Wisbech the least I can do is respect country life and not tell people who live there what to do as some do

The person they've kicked out is Richard Meade who won 3 Olympic Golds in Modern Pentathlon. He's also the Chairman of the Countryside Animal Welfare Group which is a pro-hunt group.

What they're accusing him of is coordinating a group of 600 or so pro-hunt people to all join the RSPCA and then get onto the committees and overturn the RSPCA's stance on hunting, and because of this he's being kicked out. Strange isn't it - that's exactly the way the "militant vegetarians and vegans" (his words) takeover organisations like this, except they're a bit more underhand about it and don't publicise it.

Anyway, he claims the RSPCA is refusing membership to people who live in the countryside weather they hunt or not, which they obviously refute. He even got John Mortimer (the Rumpole author) to represent him at the hearing but he still lost. A couple of interesting quotes from that :-

"If the great Olympian Richard Meade is to be expelled, it will show a drift in the Royal Society towards a political extreme. An attack on fox hunters, if permitted, must logically lead to the expulsion of shooters and fishers. Will the day come when membership is confined to the urban vegetarian, leading, along a hard pavement, a non-meat eating dog for its weekly session with a canine counsellor? This vision is no doubt absurd - but this most inappropriate expulsion, if allowed, will prove nothing about fox hunting. It will merely show that those who speak most loudly about animal rights have often lost sight of the facts that there are human rights also."
